Even new houses can be crowned with beautiful thatched roofs. This house in Dunchurch (near Coventry) is new. The thatcher was given some creative licence here and it looks beautiful.
Now to the building next door.
This is what can happen to a modern build in rural England.....the dreaded satellite dish (times four). Below is the house (possibly apartments) next door. Oh no!
I took lots of pictures in Dunchurch today. It is a fascinating little village with some rather impressive history. (Think I will work on my blog post for November 5th next. That is Guy Fawkes Day here. All will be explained.)
Have a super day!

Lovely house. Cool cat, shame about the satellite dish, they should be able to hide it.
Ohhhh...I love the thatched roof and the cat!!! Not so much the dishes...but then...I get it!
I am not a fan of those 'dishes' at all. Wish everyone had cable TV instead :).
I love that cat sneaking across the thatched roof! Beautiful home (and too bad about those satellite dishes:). It's wonderful to see these thatched treasures again, I'm looking forward to your Nov 5 post now!:) (ps I think the groundhog was 30 feet away - perhaps too far for the camera, but it was such a fun sight, I couldn't resist:)
Wow - the thatcher of the top photo is an artist!
That top thatched roof is a piece of art and I love the cat!!
I had no idea that you could still get a thatched roof. How creative with the cat!
Fabulous thatching. I've never seen anything like that top photo.
Its great to see what craftsmen can do when given time and freedom of expression. I just do not get the dishes, there must be a better way.
The 'Cat' has certainly got a thumbs up. Thank you all for stopping by. I have enjoyed reading all your interesting comments. Cheers!
So cool! Those roofs are gorgeous!
So interesting. My daughter lives in South Africa in a house with a thatched roof. It is so far from what I am used to . . .
Jack - are the South African roofs of similar design?
Thanks for commenting JM.
Hey, just out of interest I worked on the thatched roof with the cat with Brandon Thatchers. Its not a new house, its several hundred years old, just maintained well :-) Andy Crompton is the main Master Thatcher, owner of the company and responsible for the cat. You can spot his peacocks and foxes all over the county! The ones opposite with the satalitte dishes are new and unfortunately not very tasteful. Other new builds with thatched roof locally can be found in Easenhall and some more in Dunchurch down the Daventry road - past the Guy Fawks house :-)
Well, thank you, Richard. Interesting information. I will remember it the next time I see some of that brilliant creative work on top of the roof. Cheers!
