C Is For Chocolate Cake....ALMOST

I have survived the dentist today!  I knew I was on a winner this morning when one of the dental team walked through the surgery door with a big, huge, chocolate cake.  It wasn't possible to get my camera out.  But my first thought was 'C Is For Chocolate Cake'.

So there is a slight amendment:
C Is For Coventry Cathedral

Top shot is straight out of the camera.
The photo below is rotated and cropped.

Here is the puddle I was using
and the location in Coventry Cathedral.

If you have a nervous disposition about going to the dentist,
I can say from experience (now) that
being sedated is a great option, at a cost.

Thank you all for your encouraging words of support.
It has really helped, a lot!
Thank you!!

I See No Ships...

...says Mr LOL :).

That is my sweet husband who is taking
me to the dentist tomorrow to finally get that
wisdom tooth out.  I really do hope that the
tooth saga is soon to be at an end!!!!

Not sure how I will be feeling so I'll post as and when.
In the meantime, remember to brush :).

Cheers!

Coventry City Football Club Owners Gone Mad

Soccer season starts next week and
Coventry City Football Club owners think it would be good
to play home matches in Northampton (30 miles away)
rather than continue to use the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

The Story:
Coventry City FC (local soccer team) is to play all
their home matches 30 miles away in Northampton.
Crazy?  You bet.  Coventry has a state of the art stadium
good enough to host Olympic football which will now
not be used by anyone, it would appear.
Why?  All to do with money.
The Sky Blue Trust (supporters' organisation for CCFC)
is encouraging all who want to see Coventry City FC
remain in Coventry to tie a sky blue ribbon around
lamp posts, trees, railings etc.

I found hundreds of ribbons.  I like this one the best.
Taken outside Coventry Cathedral today.

Cheers for now.  Hope you all are well!!

Another First

This is the first time I have seen a hot air balloon on the ground.

We were visiting family in Monks Kirby a couple of hours ago.
Our drive home takes us past Coombe Country Park.
It was my iPhone to the rescue again!

There were 12 people in the basket
heading off for an hour's ride
across beautiful English countryside.

Coombe Abbey Hotel is in the distance
in the photograph below.

Have a chilled weekend all.
I am going to do the same.
I look forward to visiting your blogs over the weekend.

Thatched Roof Thursday #41 - Kenilworth

Unusual shaped thatched roof.
This building is Grade II listed and
not far from Kenilworth Castle.
The photo (below) shows
more detail of the roof design.
There is another thatched roof next door.
Hooray!

I had a wonderful day playing golf with new
friends and old.  Weather behaved and so
did my wisdom tooth :).

Hope your week is going smoothly!

B Is For Blossoms

My first attempt at capturing some flowers
(I mean 'blossoms').

If I get a little hungry, I can try one of these apples :).

All these and more are to be found
walking around Coombe Country Park,
minutes from Coventry.

Hop Aboard

I don't know if it is unusual to see cygnets
as young as these at this time of year.
Taken last Sunday.

On the top shot you can see two
cygnets on the swan's back.
Below everyone is on dry land.
Dad is out looking for food and
those are coots in the lake.

I just had to do something of a family
nature in light of the Royal birth yesterday.
Congratulations to William and Kate.

PS.  Happy Birthday, Lily.
Hope you are having fun in Orlando :).

It's Hot Outside!

Last time I used a photo of  my favorite tree, it was decidedly greener out.  It is 5.30pm here in Coventry and it is 88F out. Wonderful!!!!  Thunderstorms are brewing and I expect that this dry grass will get some rain soon.

For those of you who watched the The Open Championship, hope you were happy with the result.  Phil Mickelson is such a gentleman and deserved the win.  I was pulling for Lee Westwood and he didn't do too badly.

I was referred to a new dentist and had a consultation appointment today.  If you have a poorly tooth, don't leave it!  Go to the dentist NOW :).  Cheers!

iPhone To The Rescue

Taken a couple of nights ago.
I spotted the sunset and
Mr LOL noticed the hot air balloon.

Have a great weekend.  If you like golf,
do tune in and watch a little of The Open Championship
from Muirfield, Scotland.  Beautiful place.

See you next week!!!!

Thatched Roof Thursday #40 - Kenilworth

On this very rare occasion, I can give you
no details about this amazing home.

What's more, I can't believe that there is a
whole street filled with homes like this in
Kenilworth (10 minutes from Coventry).

A Is For Art...

...of an unusual sort.

These photos were taken at an Art Exhibit at the Coventry Herbert Art Gallery & Museum last month. Exhibit titled - Wasted.

Dental records were at one time an important means of identification.  That for the most part has been replaced with DNA identification.

Artist Gina Czarnecki found a use for these dental casts which cannot be disposed of in landfill.

At the time I visited the Museum I found this exhibit interesting but a tad unsettling.

The only reasons I am posting this today is because I had a disaster of a day at the dentist. I am okay but disappointed.  No luck in blocking the pain thus my tooth couldn't be removed. I had so hoped that the saga would be over.

Here is the plan.  I'll let you know when the drama is over. Thank you all for your kind thoughts expressed recently. Appreciated. In the meantime, look after yourselves and see you tomorrow for Thatched Roof Thursday :).

Lincoln Cathedral Cloisters

Above is just a small portion of the architecture on
view from inside the cloisters corridors (below).

I can't wait to go back and visit
Lincoln Cathedral again.

PS.  Went to the dentist this morning.  Yes, my wisdom tooth has to come out but NOT today.
I have to go back tomorrow :).  Looking forward to talking about something else!

Lincoln Cathedral - In The Middle

Today I am recalling our recent visit to Lincoln Cathedral.
Lincoln is just over an hour from Coventry by car.

This archway is virtually in the middle of

Below is the same door/archway from the other side.

Hope you all had a good weekend. I was on tender hooks the entire time because of my poorly

wisdom tooth. I have booked an appointment with the dentist tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed. Have a good week!

Princethorpe College

The prominent tower in the distance is Princethorpe College.
This is the last shot I took after we went on a tour there on Monday.
The college is located in the small village of Princethorpe, quite near Coventry.
The shot below is the first photo I took that evening.

I will share some photos from inside next week.

Mr LOL and I started doing some genealogy work on his family a few years ago.  We knew that in the early 1900's his grandfather lived in Princethorpe.  What we didn't know was that his great uncle was buried here with other family members. What a discovery when we just happened to stop by to have a look not that long ago.

Participating in Skywatch Friday (celebrating seven years today - congratulations!) and Ein Stück Himmel.

I am still with tooth.  Less pain but it is going to have to come out.  Something to look forward to next week, I guess.  Have a super weekend.  Weather is good here.  Yes, it is!

Thatched Roof Thursday #39 - Kenilworth

17th Century gem.
Kenilworth Castle is down the road to my right.

I couldn't pass on posting something on Thatched Roof Thursday.
I found out at the dentist yesterday that one of my wisdom teeth
and a nearby nerve are not the best of friends. If the pain doesn't go away,
I am guessing that the tooth fairy can stop by my house in the near future. Darn!

Alford Windmill Built In 1837

On the way home from the Lincolnshire coast,
we had one of those moments when
I requested (begged) Mr LOL to stop the car
so I could take these photos :).

It is just beautiful but sadly it was closed.  We couldn't go inside to have a look.  If you click on the link, you can read all about this wonderful seven story, five-sail windmill - HERE. Alford is a lovely town about 13 miles from the Lincolnshire coast.

I have got the dentist later on this morning.  I am not sure what is wrong but I am in pain.  So I may have to take a few days off.  The plan...to be back very soon!  Cheers for now.

Tuesday 9 July 2013

Caravans...

...acres of them.

I did this. Once.  Stayed in a caravan along the Lincolnshire coast.  For families it works well.  Especially when over the road you have huge sandy beaches like the photos below.

That's my husband (on the move).

Happy Tuesday.  It will be a windmill tomorrow.  Do wish the letter was 'W' for ABC Wednesday!  Take care all.

Sitting On The Fence

This might be a rather boring week for some.
I am posting holiday snaps.
These are from our little trip to the
Lincolnshire coast last month.

It is windy, hence the massive display of wind turbines.
Sharks?  I don't think so.

Just had to throw this one in.
We are in Ingoldmells (just north of Skegness).

Weather is better now.  Hooray!
I enjoyed watching a lot of sports on TV.
Thrilled that the 77 year wait for a British Men's Wimbledon Champion is finally over.
Well done, Andy Murray.
Ooh and the British Lions did rather well in Oz too.

Identification Please

I have been watching this field for a couple of weeks now.
It is beautiful with acres of lilac/purple flowers.

As excited as I am to see some blue sky,
I would really love to know what
this farmer is growing here.

I can identify those pretty red poppies.
Any ideas what those delicate lilac flowers are?

Thatched Roof Thursday #38 - Kenilworth

White sky to match white thatched cottages.

Happy 4th of July to my USA pals.  I couldn't find a thatched cottage with an American flag outside.  But I did find a street, actually two streets, with more than one thatched cottage in it.  I love this walkway. Even the windows have a little bit of thatching.  If the sun ever comes out again, I want to go back and re-take some of the houses I spotted with a little more interesting sky.  That is a big 'if'.

Kenilworth is about 15 minutes away (by car) from Coventry.  Have a terrific day.  It's hamburgers for dinner tonight :).

Rain Equals Green Fields

Recognize this shot.  I have used it a couple of times before.  The grass is so lush in comparison to February.

After having just spent over 2 hours trying to figure out what to post today, I have come to the conclusion that I need to organize my photos and thoughts.  I feel a little at sixes and sevens.  I did laugh when I found that Wikipedia gives a detailed definition of the expression.  Who would have thought :).

I'll be back for Thatched Roof Thursday.  Hope it is sunny where you are!

And for balance (below) -
a view from inside looking out. This time showing all 3 windows
of the alter.
