Congratulations to Laura Davies

Dame Laura Davies, DBE, was inducted into the
World Golf Hall of Fame today.  This is a
wonderful achievement for a talent golfer who was born in Coventry.

Two Coventry Kids

I used this photograph back in 2012
when my husband and I met Laura Davies at the Women's British Open
at Hoylake near Liverpool.  We have watched Laura
play golf several times here and in the USA (most recently this year in
Carlsbad, California).

My Sort Of View

Brancaster, Norfolk

Royal West Norfolk Golf Club

These photos were taken earlier this week when Mr LOL and I
spent a few days in Norfolk.  The coastline is
dotted with wonderful, picturesque villages not far from the seaside.

In the photo above you can see this amazing
links course is just beyond me.  That fence runs along the top of sand dunes.

In the photo below you can see more of the beach and the North Sea.
The big building is the clubhouse for the golf club.

Brancaster is a good 3 hours from Coventry.
We stayed in the area for three nights.  I'll share
more photos from this area early next week.

Draycote Water

This is a place I have wanted to visit for years.
Draycote Water offers sailing, fishing and a fantastic place to
walk or cycle around a (flat) 5 mile road which
surrounds the reservoir.

Don't let those angry clouds fool you.  It was very warm today
and look at the view directly behind me.  Just 15 miles from Coventry.

We went to watch the Ladies British Open (Golf) last week.
It was won by USA's Mo Martin.  Found out she was born in Pasadena!

The Open starts tomorrow.  I will be watching...on TV.
Got my Thatched Roof Thursday shot for tomorrow sorted today :).

USA Retain The Ryder Cup....

...yet again.  The competition ended in a tie.  USA retain the cup.

Today it is all about golf.  Whilst the professionals are hotly contesting The Masters competition in Atlanta, Georgia, our golf society has been playing our own annual Ryder Cup competition in Warwickshire.  The nice people above are members of Ansty Golf Club.  They have formed their own league played during the winter culminating in a two-day event.  This is now our 13th year.

(Thanks, Mr LOL, for taking the photo!  Poorly back kept him out of the team this year.)

Back later in the week.  I have got some serious catching up to do at home.  Cheers for now :).

Golfers, No - Deer, Yes

Forest of Arden Golf Course
Meriden, near Coventry
I played golf today but not here.  After my game I went out in search of  a thatched roof home.  No luck with that but I will settle for this instead.  The light isn't brilliant but you can see the local wildlife (with no golfers around). Meriden is next door to Coventry and is in the centre of England.

PS.  My better half thanks you for your kind thoughts.  He is much better.

Brrr...............!!

9.30 am  -  5th Hole (somewhere ahead in the fog)
Ansty Golf  Club

5th Green (with people in group behind us)

Looking up 13th Fairway
Fog lifted
12.30 pm - Standing on the 16th Tee looking towards 10th Green
Blue skies at last, briefly :)
So there you have it.  My game of golf today was enjoyable.  Obviously, if I had concentrated on my game a bit more instead of taking photos (and there are more), I might have done better than coming last in our group of 15. Oh well.

PS.  Happy Birthday, Sis!

South Korea's Shin Jiyai Wins Women's British Open

Shin Jiya at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake.

The 2012 event was won in spectacular fashion by Shin.  I didn't brave the rain and wind at Hoylake today.  Had to watch it on TV from home in Coventry. Since I took this photograph on Wednesday's practice day, thought it good to include it here.

The final results were as follows:

  • -9: J Shin (Kor)
  • Par: I Park (Kor)
  •
  • +1: P Creamer (US)
  •
  • +2: M Miyazatyo (Jpn)
  •
  • Selected others: +3: K Webb (Aus); +7: C Matthew (Sco); +8 C Kerr (US), M Wie (US).

    Two Coventry Kids At Hoylake

Well, I don't know who the man is (don't believe that) with England's Professional Golfer, Laura Davies, on practice day for the Women's British Open 2012 at Royal Liverpool Hoylake Golf Club.

John of Coventry & Laura Davies
    Both Coventry Kids
Laura just qualifies to be a Coventry Kid.  She was born in Coventry but moved to London soon after.

PS  I have suffered the perils of trying to do this post using unfamiliar equipment and wifi on the road.  Not a good idea.  I didn't even come close to following the Caltech practice of proofreading 10 times by 10 people. So it was posted, a couple of important errors found, then everything crashed.   Hopefully, all sorted now and finally posted a little later than planned.
