Roman Town Of Chesterton

Earliest Settlement of Chesterton, Fosse Way
(light green field - lower left in photo)

The small Roman town of Chesterton is no longer.
Not surprising since it dates back to (hold on to your hats)
140 AD.

Near the spot where I am standing is a
sign which gives details better than I can.
Please enlarge to read.

On top of the hill where I am standing is a beautiful windmill.
Less than a mile away is the present village of Chesterton.

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Stylish

Chesterton Windmill
Built in 1632, Grade I Listed

In my view:  Unique, historic and 'stylish'.

As we get closer, you can see more detail of this amazing piece of architecture.

The design, with those six semicircle arches,
is attributed to the famous architect, Inigo Jones.

And those views!  In this case, location really is everything.
Chesterton is only about 16 miles from Coventry
and quite near to Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

please follow the link HERE.

(Above) That's Mr LOL taking some photos, too.

(Below) One last look before left.  A beautiful spot.

Footnote:  When we came here last Thursday, I asked Mr LOL
to take some pics with my other camera as a back up.
His enthusiasm amazed me (and with a bad back).  Well done, that man :).
