Herbert Art Gallery & Museum
Gift Shop

Something fun for Friday :).
Here is everything a young person might need
to play dress-up as a knight or princess.

Have a good weekend.  I am so pleased to have put
together 5 blog-posts this week.  Hooray!

Around Coventry Cathedral Ruins

Bayley Lane, Coventry

I thought it might be fun to identify some of the historic buildings
located in the City Centre from this vantage point up the
Old Cathedral Tower.  See the 'key' below.
The truck is turning into St Mary Street.  More on that tomorrow.

In the Cathedral Quarter there are some
wonderful buildings that survived World War II.
The area where the museum stands was destroyed in the war.

Note from Lauren:
I took this photo in 2013.  It pretty much looks like this today.
If you are interested in seeing more of
any of these places, click on the 'labels' below.

Sir Alfred Herbert Mosaic

Herbert Art Gallery and Museum

This is a huge mosaic mural of the English Industrialist
and museum benefactor, Sir Alfred Herbert.
It is made up of small photographs of
events, exhibitions, workshops and collections.

The aim of this digital mosaic is to celebrate the achievement of
1,000,000 visitors to the museum and gallery since it reopened in 2008.

Finding murals is going a to be tough for me here in Coventry,
so I am hoping that this will fit the bill for this week.
Below is the whole display.

If you visit Coventry, please save time to visit
It's FREE!

Triangles, Clouds & Sky

Herbert Art Gallery & Museum

I think I have shown this roof a couple of times before
but not from this angle.  I found something in here to
use on the Monday Mural mime.  And, hey, I found a
view to use for Skywatch Friday too :).

Coventry has two excellent City Centre museums:
Both are world class and FREE.
Hooray!

Inside Looking Out

Coventry Cathedral Spire
taken from inside Herbert Art Gallery and Museum.

I took this photo last week thinking I might use it for
City Daily Photo's Theme Day - Squares.

Just for fun I'm adding a photo of that same window
looking from the outside in :).

Hope you are all set for a great week!

A Is For Art...

...of an unusual sort.

These photos were taken at an Art Exhibit at the Coventry Herbert Art Gallery & Museum last month. Exhibit titled - Wasted.

Dental records were at one time an important means of identification.  That for the most part has been replaced with DNA identification.

Artist Gina Czarnecki found a use for these dental casts which cannot be disposed of in landfill.

At the time I visited the Museum I found this exhibit interesting but a tad unsettling.

The only reasons I am posting this today is because I had a disaster of a day at the dentist. I am okay but disappointed.  No luck in blocking the pain thus my tooth couldn't be removed. I had so hoped that the saga would be over.

Here is the plan.  I'll let you know when the drama is over. Thank you all for your kind thoughts expressed recently. Appreciated. In the meantime, look after yourselves and see you tomorrow for Thatched Roof Thursday :).

There We Have It - RAIN

Coventry Cathedral through Herbert Art Gallery Windows
It never stopped raining all day today.  Perfect day to sit in and watch on TV the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in London (in the rain) which looked pretty spectacular nevertheless.  Fingers crossed it is a nicer day tomorrow.

Coventry Cathedral - Along side Bayley Lane

Coventry Cathedral and Spire, Bayley Lane Coventry (Drapers' Hall to left)

Cathedral window in more detail
Today was a beautiful January day with blue sky to give super detail to the Old Cathedral in Coventry.  I am standing outside Herbert Art Gallery and Museum (behind me) looking up Bayley Lane.  Drapers' Hall is to the left with St. Mary's Hall beyond.  The reddish steel-plate structures are sited along the front of the Gallery and Museum.  They show names of people and businesses that occupied Bayley Lane prior to World War II when the whole area was bombed extensively from 1940 onwards.
