Station Walk

Warwick Road
What you see between Coventry Train Station
and the City Centre.

The Spires just past the mirror architecture,

and plenty of flowers.

The powers that be (in this case, Coventry City Council, I believe),
have done an amazing job.  Even on a very dull day,
this all looks so pretty for those walking between
town and the train station.

Time Capsule

Friargate

Under the plaque is a sealed canister. The canister contains a collection of
2016 Coventry memorabilia. The plan is to open the 'time capsule' in 2066.

The building under construction (below) will house Coventry City Council offices.

Friargate is a £100 million regeneration project
between the Coventry Railway Station and the City Centre.
We are told there will be new office buildings, hotels, residential and leisure space.
And, I see, there is a 'time capsule' too :).

PS:  The plaque is in the middle of the walkway.
That couple have just walked by it.

Happy Birthday, Nadine xx

Station Tower Demolition

Station Tower, Coventry Railway Station
Demolition in Process

Possibly one of my most favorite buildings
is being dismantled floor by floor.
The photo above was taken today and the one
below was taken in May, 2015.

Below is another shot taken today.

There is another change too.  In the shot above there is
another building missing.  It had a green banner on it in May (below).

Big changes are happening here in Coventry.
I'll hope to be back with an update in the future :).

I'm taking a day off tomorrow to work on a post for
for Saturday,
the 75th Anniversary of the bombing of Coventry Cathedral.

More Demoltion

Coventry Cathedral Spire

The photograph (above) is a view looking through the demolition site
of a 1960's office block across the street from Coventry Train Station.

In the photograph below (one of my favorite buildings)
Station Tower is soon to be demolished.

I believe major improvements are proposed
for Coventry Train Station (to the right of Station Tower).

Below is another view of how work is progressing.

Above is some of the completed walkway from the train station
to town and some new occasional seating.
All of the buildings pictured will be completely demolished,
soon.

Have a super weekend...see you next week :).

PS  Happy Birthday, Jean!!!!

Occasional Seating

Between City Centre and Coventry Railway Station

I was amused by these chairs.  They are
a tad random.  I thought someone just left them there.

It is the design.  Cemented in the brickwork (I checked).
A place to rest (I guess) on the walk between the
train station and town.  Overall the area looks pretty nice and
welcoming to visitors to Coventry.

Behind me - a total mess (for now).  I'll explain and show you more
in the week :).

Station Tower To Be Demolished :(

Physio for me today and Chiropractor for Mr LOL.
All good for us but not so good for nearby building which is
one of my favourite tall buildings in Coventry.  Just look at that staircase!

I'm sure there is an elevator or two for 'no one' to use.
The 15 floors Station Tower has been empty for ages.
The plan - redevelopment that means this building has no future.

The entrance to Coventry Train Station (left photo above) is quite close to Coventry City Centre (below).  Note the
Three Spires.  The spire to the right is Coventry Cathedral.

The good news - Blue Sky!

N Is For Number oNe

Number One, Eaton House, Eaton Road, Coventry

This distinctive building with blue windows near Coventry Train Station stands virtually empty. It was built in 1970 and has 13 floors.  At present, there is only one business in the building.  Madness. (Nearby skyscraper, Station Tower,  is vacant. You can see the full length shot of Eaton House in the Station Tower photo.)

Ring Road, Coventry looking towards Number One, Eaton House (to right).

On a brighter note, the daffodils are just coming out now.  Hooray!  Have a safe day.

Station Square, Coventry

The Coventry Train Station entrance is just out of shot (bottom left of this photo).  The City Centre is a short 10 minute walk from here.

It all looks so 'grey' and I am not just talking about the sky :).  In my effort to learn more about the building to the right (Station Tower), the word is that the whole area 'was' due to be redeveloped. Consequently, not only is Station Tower empty but so is Eaton House (white with blue windows) to the left.  The tallish building beyond is a Ramada Hotel and it is occupied. Something is going on here, or not.  I am on a mission to find out what the story is.  It just seems crazy to have buildings like this standing empty in the space between Coventry's train station and the City Centre.

Station Tower

This 1970's building has intrigued me for ages.  It is tall by Coventry standards (15 floors), right next door to Coventry Train Station and loaded with lots of glass (not to mention it is a perfect perch for relay equipment).  It is curious to me that for the longest time, I have been able to see almost directly through most of the floors.  Can it be vacant?

I went by the main door yesterday and noticed only 2 businesses listed on the directory.  Next time Mr LOL has a chiropractor appointment near here, I will try and get up enough nerve to ring a buzzer or two and ask if I can have a look inside?  Watch this space!

It is Friday and what a busy week it has been.  Cheltenham Festival (horse racing) finishes today.  Our afternoons have been spent primarily watching our favourite horses not win :).  Still fun.

Have a good weekend!  For more 'sky' photos follow the link to Skywatch Friday.  I am going to have a go at linking to Ein Stück Himmel at the suggestion of my friend Lulu over at Princeton Daily Photo.  Cheers!

Sit Down And Rest A While

Coventry Train Station

What can I say.  These benches look very 'stainless steel' and new.  The planters are stainless steel too and so are some of the lamp post and bins.  Things are changing in Coventry.  I like the look and if it hadn't been raining, I would have tested this seating for comfort.  Another 'thumbs up' from me.

Coventry In Bloom

Walkway between Coventry Train Station and the City Centre....

These beautiful flowers make up for the lack of sunshine and serve as a lovely greeting to all arriving in Coventry.

As The Sign Says, 'Welcome To Coventry'

Coventry Train Station
This isn't the first time I have photographed Coventry Station.  The parking lot provided me with this bird's eye view which I just could not ignore.  All Aboard?

'Come On Sky Blues' - CCFC have got to win tomorrow!!!!

Hope there is more action on the pitch than there is here!
This art work is located on the walkway between the Coventry Railway Station and the City Centre.  I have chosen this photo in the hopes that our struggling football team will have a big win tomorrow against Derby County.

PS.  I don't know who created this great display....so will do some research and come back with more information in the near future.

Welcome to Coventry

1940 Coventry Rail Station is located within easy walking distance of Coventry City Centre.  The Station's central location in England means that there are plenty of destinations to travel to from here.  Note:  Birmingham International Airport is only about a 10 minute train journey from here.  For me the most eye-catching train passing through this Station has to be the Virgin train (as pictured).
