Greetings!

It's been months since I posted anything.  Coventry is changing

significantly.  Whilst we still have a number of Covid-19 restrictions 

I really feel the urge to get out there and safely take some photos.

This one was taken at a little spot we like to stop and enjoy the views

looking over Warwickshire, England.

It is a bit of a dull day but this wheat field looks a pretty sage green.

100 Years Ago...Remembered

Remembrance Sunday

Brinklow Village, Warwickshire

St John the Baptist Church -

Look closely and you will see 

glass silhouettes of two soldiers sitting on the bench above.

Cascade of hand-crafted poppies.

Today marks the 100 year anniversary of the end of hostilities

in the First World War at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

There are many displays throughout the Village.  A wonderful effort by all.

Below is a display focusing on WWI Tank Corp.

Remembrance Sunday is held in the United Kingdom 

and the Commonwealth of Nations as a day 

"to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth 

military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts'.

Greetings.  It has been a long time.  I have been

busy but still taking photographs here and there.  

Brinklow Village is located a short distance from Coventry, about

10 minutes from my home.  When I saw all the

hard work that had been undertaken (and believe me

there is so much more than what I show here), I 

decided I must share.

Thatched Roof Thursday #94 - Meriden

Maxstoke Lane

This is a 17th Century, Grade II listed thatched cottage

located in the village of Meriden.  

Meriden is about 8 miles from Coventry.

Traditionally, Meriden has been regarded as the 

'centre of England'.

I'm still on the lookout for at least 6 more 

thatched cottages so that my collection will have 

100 :).

Whoopee!  I found another thatched cottage to add to my collection.

It is somewhat hidden from a busy main road.  But here you have it,

a thatched cottage.

Thatched Roof Thursday Revisited

Stoneleigh Village

This was Thatched Roof Cottage #31 back in

May, 2013.  It looks almost the same now.  

It is for sale with a guide price of £650,000 (ouch!)

for this Grade II Listed home that dates back to 1500.

Nice neighbourhood :).

The Circular Tower

Easenhall, Warwickshire

Easenhall Lodge (Grade II listed estate house, circa 1871)

 and Easenhall Cricket Club

Oh how I wish the sun was out when we drove

through Easenhall Village earlier today.

What do you think about that house?

It is described as 'a good example of High Victorian Gothic estate house'.

Fantastic, isn't it.

(Below) is the village cricket ground located next to the house.

 No lawnmowers necessary here.  I'm guessing 

those sheep will keep the grass neatly trimmed :).

Thatched Roof Thursday Revisited

Stoneleigh Village

I had an opportunity to drive through this
lovely village yesterday.  So I took the opportunity to look at
a couple of thatched roof cottages I photographed in 2013.

The house on the right (above) was
#33 in my Thatched Roof Thursday series.
If you look in the distance (above),
you'll see #43 (also below).
Not much has changed over the last 4 years.

Stoneleigh Village is beautiful.  It is very close to
Coventry and if you have a spare few £s,
my #43 is For Sale :).

The Flying Scotsman

Today at Cathiron Bridge

Popular trainspotting location midway between

Nuneaton and Rugby on the West Coast Main Line.

Built in 1923, The Flying Scotsman is an icon of the steam age.

My husband (red jacket collar) joined quite a few more

to catch a glimpse as it passed by.  Not far from where we live :).

A pair of cottages (Grade II Listed)

built in mid 18th Century.

This style of building (two houses together)

is often seen in modern day houses here in England,  

called 'semi-detached'.  Fun to see an 18th Century version.

I am guessing these are one-bedroom homes. The addition of

a conservatory gives some extra space.

Thatched Roof Thursday #90 - Peatling Parva

This is the second of three thatched cottages

I photographed in the village of Peatling Parva. 

Almost missed it...it is set back from the road.

This village is just a few miles from the old 

RAF airbase at Bruntingthorpe which was used by
the American Air Force during and after WWII. 

 The airbase then became a vehicle testing

ground for Chrysler in the mid 1970/80's.

Thatched Roof Thursday Revisited

Remember my Thatched Roof Thursday series?

I have photographed 88 thatched roof cottages

 and I am hoping to make it to 100.

In the meantime, I couldn't resist re-visiting 2 cottages

in nearby Brinklow that were participating 

in Brinklow's Scarecrow Festival.

The first one is a cottage I photographed in March, 2013.  

The next is one (below) I photographed in November, 2012.

Here it is last week with Snow White and friends :).

The Scarecrow Festival was held at the end of August.

I am hoping they do it again next year.

Here are a few more of the 100 scarecrows

created by local residents.  Well Done!

Brinklow's Scarecrow Festival

The perfect setting for a wedding.

The Church?  St. John the Baptist, Broad Street.

The Event?  Brinklow's Scarecrow Weekend 

held over last August Bank Holiday weekend.

The happy Bride and Groom?  

Yes, you guessed it - they are scarecrows.

The church (below) with more scarecrows (and some people too)

in the field next to the church.

The whole village was full of displays.

I'll show you a few more later in the week.

CDP Theme Day - The Beauty of Simplicity

Thatched Roof Thursday #88 - Willey, Warwickshire

Little Orchard Cottage

It has been a long while since I have added to my
collection of thatched roof cottages.
When I had first sight of this building today, I thought it
looked a little plain.  I couldn't see much of the roof from the car.

Driving back I noticed that amazing goat.  I was delighted.

This cottage is Grade II Listed -

circa 17th century with circa 19th century alterations.

The village of Willey about 30 minutes from Coventry.

January Daffodils

Brinklow Road, Easenhall

Seeing these daffodils today gave me a nudge

to get back to blogging for 2016.
Normally, I would be looking out
 for snow about now, not daffodils.

 These photos were taken on a nice country road not far from Coventry

between the villages of Brinklow and Easenhall.

So there you have it -

daffodils, country road, nice house and a big red tracker too :).

Thatched Roof Thursday #85 - Pailton

Midsummer's Cottage

Pailton is a lovely little

village not far from Coventry.  I have driven by this cottage

many times but only recently noticed that bright red door and

how pretty the cottage was looking.  

The oldest part of the cottage dates back to 17th Century.

 Yes, it is Grade II Listed.

Priors Hardwick

Pretty even in the rain.

Mid to late 18th Century, Grade II Listed building.

It has been quite a while since I added thatched roof cottages to this

series of photos.  I have to go searching for them now.

Found this one on Monday about 30 minutes drive from Coventry.
