Thatched Roof Thursday #86 - Stratford Upon Avon

Old Thatch Tavern
(on a very rainy, dark day)

These photos were taken last month.
It was a horrible day but when I saw this
pub I had to take some photos.

If you have ever visited Stratford, this
public house is located close to
Shakespeare's birthplace.

It is a Grade II Listed building dating back to 1470.
Not only is it the oldest pub in Stratford town - it is also
the only thatched building left in town.

Hopefully you can make out a little of the thatched roof
on the last photo above.

The Shakespeare Express

Snow Hill Station
Looking up Cromwell Street, Birmingham

4965 Rood Ashton Hall Steam Train

Built in 1929 for the Great Western Railway.
The photo above was taken at Snow Hill Station
looking between the engine and carriage.

Below is the full view taken at
Stratford Upon Avon Station later in the day.

On Sunday we had a fun day taking a
steam train ride from Birmingham to
Stratford and back.

Unfortunately, it rained a good portion of the day.
The couple of hours we had in Stratford was
spent taking short walks with plenty of stops for tea!

If you fancy a trip on a steam train like this,

Y is for Yesterday

Yesterday, on our drive back from Chipping Campden, we stopped at The Welcombe Hills to see what the view is like.  That is the Welcombe Hotel just below and Stratford Upon Avon town is beyond.  The photo I posted yesterday was taken from a spot in those distant hills.

Follow this link - ABC Wednesday - for more photos from around the world featuring the letter 'Y'.

PS I found a rather nice thatched cottage in Chipping Campden.  I am all set for Thatched Roof Thursday tomorrow :).

Road to Chipping Campden

A short 45 minute drive from Coventry to Chipping Campden will find you driving through beautiful countryside with views like this.  Chipping Campden is located in the Cotswolds, not far from Stratford Upon Avon.  It features a historic High Street that has been officially designated a conservation area to preserve it for years to come.
