Thatched Roof Thursday #17 - Easenhall

When you drive through the village of Easenhall you can't help but notice this large thatched roof home.

It is really difficult to see because of all the trees around it.  Yesterday, I asked Mr LOL to stop the car so I could try and get a closer look.  Success:

I found a small road which goes to the front of house, just off the main road.  My research has failed to glean any info about this huge place.  My guess is that it is relatively new.  Only the very top of the roof is covered with chicken wire so you can see more of the detail of the entire roof.

Off to have a look at the cottage that is being re-thatched.  They are working on the ridge now and it seems to be a long job.

Beautiful house!!! How long does a thatched roof last before it needs to be re-thatched???

what movie are you out seeing now?!

Thanks, Daryl.

Chieftess - It depends on what materials they use (straw, reeds, etc.) but can be 10 to 15 years or even longer or less. I will get details of the roof I am following - I have gotten to know the owner of the thatch roof business doing that job.

Tanya - No films today. Seems odds. Next one on list is Lincoln or Hitchcock (next week). That gate goes to a pretty white home.

All these thatched house photos are making me want to live in one, haha. Something so charming about this one and I can't imagine it with anything *but* a thatched roof:)

This place is soooo big and yet it does still work being thatched. Thanks for acknowledging my efforts to find out more. I will let Mr. LOL know that it is a good things to stop the car at short notice...ha ha!

Lulu, I would love to live in one of them too!

I absolutely LOVE thatched roofs! Many look like works of art, and can even make large houses look like cottages (and I love cottages!) These are great examples. Thank you for providing a thatched roof fix for me today. :-)
