I did not know what hoarfrost was until Mammoth Lakes Daily Photo featured it more than once. (Have a look here.) Since that time, I stumbled across this photo taken in December, 2010. I have posted photos of this view before but wanted to add this to my collection. Could that be hoarfrost in those trees?
We have had three very cold days here with lots of 'NO blue sky'!!!!! If it has to be cold, I much prefer something like this view above.
For more photos featuring the sky, please follow this Skywatch Friday link.
That's me done for the week. I may have to take Monday off if I stay up all night watching the academy awards. It starts around 1.30 am here. Cable TV is organised. (Adele will be singing.) But, if I have any common sense, I will record it and watch it in comfort on Monday morning. We shall see :). Have a good weekend all.

How beautiful!
If you stay up, I'll be enjoying the awards with you.
The trees and shrubs look beautiful.
looks like hoarfrost to me
I can't believe the Academy Awards are upon us already. The month flew by. I love the look of hoarfrost here (a word I didn't know until I was 18:). Beautiful addition to the collection!
Happy Oscars viewing!
Beautiful capture. You're right -- if it's cold, it's more tolerable to look at something pretty like this. I've never been into the Oscars...although, I do love Adele's voice. Enjoy!
That counts as hoarfrost in my book.
Sometimes cold can be beautiful. Enjoy the Oscars!
Beautiful photo. I vote you stay up for the awards. Having pulled several all-night ears for Royal Weddings, I feel that events like this are memory-makers. Enjoy, whichever route you choose!
Brrrrr. Hoarfrost makes for some great wintery scenes like this one.
That's very pretty - looks like someone dusted the landscape with powdered sugar!
The last time I was in the Uk in England in the winter I saw this type of frost!
On cold winter days as I kid I would write my name in the frost crystals on the inside of the windows - and I lived in mild Somerset!
I dont get to see hoarfrost very often here - and the bedrooms are a bit warmer too!

Just popping in to say there's some live Oscars coverage beginning 7pm EST at the NYTimes - if you stay up, enjoy the awards!

Really beautiful!
did you stay up? i was able to stay awake til the last hour .. my eyes were closing so i left Toonman to watch and went to sleep ... love the frost ..
No hoarfrost in this part of the world which is almost too bad as obviously a beautiful photograph can result.
Looks like we are agreed that it is hoarfrost!
I loved the Academy Awards!!!!! I loved the music (especially Adele) and I thought most of the Oscars went to the right people. (I won't put in any detail here just in case you haven't seen them yet.) At 3.30am here in freezing Coventry I was eating popcorn and drinking ginger ale happy as could be. Mr LOL was snoring away upstairs. I watched the whole thing again this afternoon with Mr LOL. Hope you all enjoyed the show too!
Adele - I am filled with admiration that you have had some early starts with UK events...so I felt compelled to stay up :).
Lulu - Thanks for the link - sweet of you!
Thanks again for visiting me...I be back in business tomorrow (Tuesday).
Those trees look like cotton balls. Fabulous shot!
Looks like hoarfrost LOL, but I'm certainly not an expert! Loved watching the arrivals on the red carpet at the Oscars, some of those dresses were gorgeous. I watched right up until half an hour before the end, woke up just in time to see the credits roll haha!
Thanks, JM.
PerthDP - You are so funny!!!!! I haven't watched the Red Carpet yet. It's recorded...no rush.
