A Flèche With Flying Cross

Coventry Cathedral spire is known as a flèche.  It is 80 feet high with a Flying Cross sculpture on top (by Geoffrey Clark).  A closer look is called for when I get a telephoto lens. This somewhat unusual spire was lowered on to the flat roof of the new Coventry Cathedral by helicopter in 1962 in two stages.  The flèche first, then the sculpture was placed on top.

When we were in town today, the sky was blue for a good part of the morning.  Hooray!  We went on our usual walk to the area known as The Cathedral Quarter (see below).

For more photos sharing skies from around the world, follow this link - Skywatch Friday.

Have a great weekend all.  See you next week.  That's the plan :).

PS.  Saw the film, 'I Give it a Year'.  The previews looked funny but those were the best bits.  For me, I should have 'given it a miss'. Disappointed.

First, love the close-up and then the 'big picture' photo, wonderful context. Second, I too learned what a fleche is - I love the word spirelet from Wikipedia! I googled the movie as I didn't know it, looks like it has not made it to States yet. Have a great weekend!

(Yes, give the Himmel site a spin! Your Skywatch pictures would be perfect:) How lovely your granddaughter is studying German and spending the term abroad...Mr. L did the same back in his Uni days:)

Looks like a lovely place for a walk. So glad I read your blog page and finally figured out what LOL means -- very clever. (I was kind of wondering why you were always laughing out loud.)

Love the way you got the 'fleche' (new word to moi also) in both shots LOL. Thanks for the review, I've noticed that's happened so often, very clever editing of the shorts..I might just give that one a miss.

Thanks all. I didn't know what a fleche was either and I also don't know how get locate that 'e' with an accent on it. I had to cut and paste on my post :).

PerthDP - I honestly thought you would know the word as I see you have a real love of using French language here there and everywhere. Really cool.

Lulu, I will tell our G'daughter about Mr. L doing much the same as she is. She will love that.

SRQ - So funny!!!! In truth, lots of laughs or the traditional 'laughing out loud' would work for me too but now you know the real idea :). PS - It is okay to call me Lauren too....!

Cheers all. Have a good day!
