Thatched Roof Thursday # 37 - Lutterworth

Fancy a drink?
How about the the Shambles in the market town
 of Lutterworth.

The Shambles is one of several landmarks in Lutterworth. This building was once an abattoir and butchers. It is the oldest timber-framed building in Lutterworth dating back to the 16th century and was a first used as a public house in 1791 until 1840. About then it was converted back to a home and butchers shop. In 1982 it became a public house again.

On Monday we needed to run one of our granddaughters to Lutterworth.  I got a little excited when I saw this pub with a thatched roof.  It did rain later.

You would love the grass houses the old Hawaiians live in :-)

It would be a great place for a pub. I'm glad you found it.

Lovely thatched pub example but a shame about the ads- that's capitalism I guess ;-(

That's nice :)

And a handsome building it is, too! Not sure about thatched roofs, but they seem to work. I've heard they need to be "combed" every year, though.

There seems to be an awful lot of thatched cottages around the West Midlands. And a good job too.

Thanks for the message about my 2500th blog Lauren. I never thought I would get this far when i began over 7 years ago. How many have you clocked up so far?

How absolutely charming! It's hard to imagine that it was once a slaughterhouse.
