Cruck House, Hinckley Road - Finished
This is the thatched roof home that I have followed being re-thatched. It was finished ages ago but I have been waiting for a day when the sky is blue so I could share the finished product. Below is the first photo I took just as the old thatch was being removed.
It is all done now and looks great. This house is on a main road and even though it doesn't have the benefit of a village location, it still turns the heads of passers-by. Listed for sure - the details are HERE.
I have met one of the owners. I still hope to do a post about the interior structure of this lovely home and more about the process of thatching too. It is on the list :).

Perfection - you have some lovely thatched cottage images of rural England- well done on finding so many!
impressive work!! i'm glad you have met one of the owners...we are one step closer to getting inside!
This place is so beautiful!
It looks great, and also loving those skies! How nice you met one of the owners and got to chat:) I'm fascinated by these thatched homes and the gems you've been finding!
Be interested to see inside
That is one smart roof, especially around the chimney. Would love to know how much it cost!
This is very interesting. I don't remember seeing other thatched houses with brick walls.
The third photo is good. It explains the house's setting.
Cheers to you all.
We have just been on a little trip to the coast. I only saw 2 thatches. I thought I would see more.
Jack - I sometimes feel a bit guilty that my photos don't reflect the reality of the location. I am going to throw in more street shots :).
They did a first rate job here LOL, so lovely to see the restored thatch and yes it is always interesting to see how they look in situ, you have shown a few before if I remember rightly.
It looks so smooth, like you could curl up and sleep on it. If it weren't, you know, steep.
What a wonderful work. Those guys are true artists.
Thatched roofs look kind of "homey." I've heard they keep the place cool in summer and warm in winter, but need to be "combed" every year or so. Or maybe the thatch needs to be replaced as is being done here.
Very nice series of photos!
Lovely old house and so very ... English. Thatched cottages are something we don' have here.
