Thatched Roof Thursday #59 - Hill Wootton

The Thatched Cottage, Hill Wootton,
dating back to around the 17th Century with 3 charming eyebrow dormers.

Yes, they call this huge looking home a 'cottage'.
Hill Wootton is a hamlet of
Leek Wootton and Guy's Cliffe Parish Council.

Here is the full text of this British Listed Building:
'Circa C17 timber-framed cottage range much refaced in red brick. Timber framing
exposed on front elevation. Steeply pitched thatched roof with gabled ends.
Sandstone foundations. One storey and attic. 2:3:4-light casements and modern
plank door with thatched hood. Three eyebrow dormers at eaves. Three brick
ridge chimney stacks.'

Both photographs were taken last week.

I am never sure what the British mean by 'cottage'. This one is a beauty!

These are very beautiful images. The roof looks very nice, and really maks the whole house look inviting.

I am assuming it would have been 2 or 3 homes when originally built.

It's beautiful and big. But I don't think it's a cottage at all. It's a hamlet!

This one is terrific. I really like your series on thatched cottages (er, thatched BUILDINGS or thatched MANSIONS). Last week? I can't believe the green grass in February. I thought things were much drearier at this time of year.

I assume C17 means 17th century. Haven't seen that abbreviation used her but it makes sense.

Love the sound of the three 'eyebrow dormers', would so love to see inside one of these old cottages Lauren. Hope you have a lovely weekend, take care.

Thanks all...! You're terrific!!

Linda - I have a Post It note on my computer re the dates. I get confused with 'circa' and 'C' and even what dates a particular century is referring to. So as I see it - this house dates to circa (means about) C17 (means 17th Century) so that all equals some time during the 1600s. If I have it wrong, someone will put me right.

RedPat - I am so in agreement with you. This can never be a cottage :).

Fun60 - I think you are right!

Lowell - A hamlet, indeed :).

Lulu - I am feeling much better. Next problem is my little Panasonic that is broken. I miss having it in my pocket.

Jack - Rain = green grass. We have had plenty. Oddly we have had some really nice blue sky too (with more rain the same day).

Everyone else - Thank you for your thoughts. Eyebrows seem to have gotten a thumbs up.

Charming "little cottage"!!! Does the thatched roof deem it to be labeled a cottage???
