Thatched Roof Thursday #22 - Brandon

This thatch roof cottage has the curious name of Everton Manor. It is so tiny.  The sight of it always turns my head when we drive by.  I found a conservation report for Brandon Village and it describes this cottage, as follows:

'The building with the oldest origins in the village is Everton Manor, which dates back to 1550, now with a brick skin covering the original wattle and daub exterior.'

Oh, 'wattle and daub'....??? Good old Wikipedia has can enlighten us here. So it looks like that brickwork is actually covering some rather old building material. Surprise!

The photos I have used for the last 3 days have all come from walking distance of each other.

I mentioned last week that I was going to show you the home next door to last week's thatch.  I seem to have run out of time. I haven't forgotten :).  Better do that Monday.  Cheers!

This is a gem LOL, but surely it's more of a cottage than a manor :) it does have a very splendid thatch though!

It's looking GREAT for it's age! (Also, amazing that wattle and daub has been around 6000 years, the things one learns via blogs:) I love it's smaller footprint and sweet roof.

Charming, the overall shape suggests it was built several hundred years ago.

Perhaps I am missing something, but it doesn't look very tiny to me.

You all are terrific!

My thoughts, exactly, Daryl. I cannot figure out why it would be called a 'Manor' PerthDP. My definition is something huge! I learn, Lulu, just putting these posts together. 'Cute' comes to mind for me, Deb.

Kate - You're not missing a thing. Your perspective is that this place is a big bigger in your eyes than mine. Good reminder for me that we all have our own points of view. Love that you say it how you see it!!

Jack - I am falling over in amazement. These cottages are everywhere...I am so glad that photography is causing me to notice them :). Thanks for the visit, Petrea.

Tanya - I was wondering if anyone would know what wattling is. Well done.

Have a great weekend all!

So kind, JM :).

Well done, Chieftess!

Petrea - BTW, Loving your book and my lips will remain sealed as to its contents. You do come to mind though when I see the odd castle here and there :).

Thank you, Lauren! Doesn't it seem wonderful and amazing to be seeing the "odd castle"? The whole time I was in England my jaw was in my lap. Can't wait to come back. What a history. What a country.

Looking at the photo, I am reminded of an ancient Viking house...

Francesco - Now that you mention it - I see what you mean :).

Petrea - I feel just the same. Every day seems to offer something amazing to look at or learn about. Especially nice on a sunny day :).
