The Old Coventry Cathedral
Two weeks ago, I shared a photograph taken from outside the Cathedral looking in.
I thought you might like to see inside the Cathedral
as it stands now after being bombed in WWII.
The New Cathedral is to the left. The spire is behind me.
A footnote: My husband's parent were married in this very Cathedral in 1936,
not many years before the Coventry Blitz.
His mother lived in Bayley Lane (next to the Cathedral)
and this was her parish church.

It is beautiful how they preserved it. It still looks very much a part of the new cathedral.

I'm loving the shots of the old cathedral, the new one to the side looks like it may be not quite so traditional in style, is that right! What a wonderful wedding story, can only imagine what that would have been like in the original building.
Despite the sadness of the blitz, it's a gorgeous old cathedral and gorgeous captures too! How amazing your husband's family had that direct connection. This place is on my to-do list for Coventry, I'm also fascinated by how they integrated new and old structures:)

A magnificent testament to the human spirit, to evil, to faith & resilience. . . A treasure for the ages. Is the cross of three nails a prevalent theme in the area?

Cloudia, The cross of nails is recognised around the world as a symbol of peace and reconciliation. When you visit the Cathedral you see evidence of that everywhere. Wonderful.

This is so beautifully done - the new that integrates with the old - the ruins of cathedrals being so beautiful in themselves.... I believe I may have visited here in the 1950s and will check out the album...in those days I was a hitch-hiker.
