A Modest Abode, Hill Wootton, Warwickshire

Blackdown Mill
Hill Wootton can be found just off the main road between Royal Leamington Spa and Kenilworth.  Every time I drive by I am tempted to explore.  Well, now I have.  This enormous Grade II Listed Building has history linking the mill with Coombe Abbey. A historian I am not so I will spare you the injustice of trying to summarise the titbits of information scattered on the web, except to say that this is an 18th Century mill house sitting nicely along side the River Avon and it is now a home.

Too dark to photo thru port cullis to see mill driving cog wheels, etc.
PS.  I may have learned something totally unrelated to
this house but to do with the word 'titbits'.  Now I always thought
that word was 'tidbits'.  Could it  be that 'tid' is a US variation of
the word.  Apparently so....but after living in the UK for nearly 40 years...well, I am surprised.

Modest, uh, huh! This kind of modest I like - what a great building.

so this is now a private residence? it's a gorgeous! i was lol'ing about the summary on "tit-bits" because i was thinking "how funny, we say tid-bits" here"! maybe it's always been as you say it but changed in the accent....if you say it quick enough nobody can tell anyway!

Sigh, another lovely and beautiful spot! I'm quite enjoying these further glimpses into Warwickshire (plus the weather looks perfect). I love that bit about 'tidbits' - another great US/UK variation!

(Also, that is so cool about your looking more into genealogy - I've known folks who've had surprisingly good luck discovering more about their family roots in the UK, including in the Warwickshire area - good luck in your ongoing discoveries!)

Lovely home - and soooo modest! :-) Enjoyed the tidbit about titbit too! What does Grade II mean?

Oh, Adele, you gave me some homework. A Grade I building or of 'exceptional' interest and possibly of international importance. A Grade II building is of national importance and of special interest. If there is an asterick (*) after the II then they are particularly important buildings of more than special interest. So I have learned something here. Looks like an * is a bonus. Modest, indeed :)

Thank you, Lulu. Been to the library today doing a little more genealogy research. It is fun. Plenty of English roots for me going back to 1624. The weather is brilliant. Making the most of it cause I know it won't last :). I pronounce many words wrong...my Mom did too. So it is fun when I learn the correct pronunciation - often(!) with a nice UK/USA twist too.
