Passing Clouds

Yesterday was perfect for a nice walk 

along side the lake at Coombe Country Park.

The photo above was taken from inside the bird hide.

(Apologies, but I have posted similar shots like these.  I love the views.)

Those clouds were moving fast...it was windy.

No snow this year.  Those brown brambles will soon be green.

Thatched Roof Thursday #59 - Hill Wootton

The Thatched Cottage, Hill Wootton,

dating back to around the 17th Century with 3 charming eyebrow dormers.

Yes, they call this huge looking home a 'cottage'.  

Hill Wootton is a hamlet of 

Leek Wootton and Guy's Cliffe Parish Council.

Here is the full text of this British Listed Building:

'Circa C17 timber-framed cottage range much refaced in red brick. Timber framing

exposed on front elevation. Steeply pitched thatched roof with gabled ends.

Sandstone foundations. One storey and attic. 2:3:4-light casements and modern

plank door with thatched hood. Three eyebrow dormers at eaves. Three brick

ridge chimney stacks.'

Both photographs were taken last week.

Oh Dear

I generally lean towards sharing pretty sights of places
in and around Coventry.  Since I have been sick with
a rotten cold...I haven't ventured out far - here's
what's happening near where I live :).

Top shot was taken on Sunday.  Yes, it was warm and sunny but
my attention was distracted by work being carried out by the gas people.

Today (feeling a bit better) went for another little walk to the main road.
No sunshine, but plenty of disruption.  For how long?  Who knows.

Back tomorrow with a pretty thatched roof cottage.

Well, that's the plan :).

The Forge Cottage

Grade II Listed dating around the 17th Century

located about 8 miles from Coventry.

This sweet thatch is on the main road in the

charming village of Leek Wootton.

The plan - Another long weekend.

All Saints' Church, Leek Wootton

I was in search of thatched cottages today.

Not only did I find a couple but I also

discovered the impressive

All Saints' Church in the village of Leek Wootton.

It is a beautiful church with an extraordinary cemetery along side.

The church was closed.  I have so many questions. 

It is a 'must' that I return.  So this posting is 'to be continued'.

I will also try and get a better photo of the the main entrance.

I like the shadows of the tree but .... :).

Wildlife Paddling Pool

I can promise you I was willing that swan (center - click to enlarge) to jump in.

No luck :).

That is a dredging barge used some years ago to 

remove silt from the lake. Think it has a new use now.

Not far away is evidence of the strong winds

we have been having.

Both photos taken at Coombe Country Park yesterday.

Golf Anyone?

Like many parts of England, Coventry has not escaped flooding after heavy rain.  

The Copsewood Grange Golf Club near us is a tad unplayable today.  

Normally, this vantage point would be of green grass with the River Sowe passing on the right.

Hopefully this imposing lake feature will drain soon.

Where ever you are, hope you are safe and well.

Thatched Roof Thursday #57 - Stoneleigh Village

Nothing worse than waking up on a Thursday morning and

realising that I have no thatched cottage photos and it is raining!

Off to Stoneleigh Village in hopes that one home I had not

used before was not blocked off by cars or under construction.

Camera phone at the ready, I got these shots. 

I found the following description in an old 'for sale' listing which

describes this home perfectly:

'In part dating from the reign of George 1, this is a fascinating Grade 2 listed detached house situated in this perennially popular village. The original Cruck beamed thatched cottage with masses of exposed beam work was significantly added to in the 1990s to provide a sympathetically in keeping extension.'

I am happy with this.  Hope you are too!

Nettle Hill, Ansty

I thought this might be a good place to visit today.

All these photos were taken within 200 yards of each other.

The photo above is looking east towards Leicestershire. 

Look closely on the fence (below).  Think that might be a Sparrow Hawk.

Below is the mainline to the North.

Plenty of farms in this part of the world.

Looking west - Coventry City Centre.

If you enlarge photo, you might be able to pick out the 3 Spires

of Holy Trinity Church, Coventry Cathedral & Christ Church.

I do love it here in England 

even if we haven't had any snow yet :).
