Waiting For Spring

My favourite tree in March.
Still no leaves.

Apologies for falling behind with visits to my favorite blogs.
I've had a little tummy bug which hasn't been much fun :(.
I'm planning to get better :).
In the meantime, I'll be taking a little break
to get well & catch up on a multitude of things.

See you in a couple of weeks!

PS  Happy Birthday to Cuz and Marty

Thatched Roof Thursday #62 - Harborough Magna

'Lilac Cottage'

Every time we go to the cinema in Rugby, we
pass this home.  Many thanks to the owner for giving me permission
to take these photographs.

Three Spires

These spires have dominated Coventry's skyline for hundreds of years.
I can say from experience, it isn't easy to photograph all 3 together
these days.

All three survived World War II air raids.
From left to right is Holy Trinity Church,
Christ Church (the church did not survive)
and Coventry Cathedral (the church now in ruins).

Bare Trees...

...but plenty of Spring flowers.

Last week I showed you the new drive.  This week I have stepped
about 50 feet away from the drive to show you the daffodils and crocuses
in full bloom.

There are absolutely no leaves on the trees
yet :).

Both shots were taken yesterday at the
entrance to Coombe Abbey Hotel and Coombe Country Park.

PS.  Happy Birthday, Jeff (for yesterday) and
Blanche (today).

Discovering West Lodge

This was how the sky looked last Saturday
at a shopping centre near us.  I thought a photo of the fields
would be nice.  There is a building in the distance.
Can you see it?

Well, I knew what it was and wondered if I could zoom in a little.

What you can see is a two storey, Grade 2 listed gate house known as West Lodge.
It was once the western entrance to the Coombe Abbey estate.
Ok, I am going to try and zoom a bit more.

The quality is more like a painting, I think, but I like the look.
And, wouldn't I love to have a look inside :).

Have a super weekend.

Thatched Roof Thursday #61 - Leek Wootton

Ivy Cottage

All I can tell you about this 'close to the road'
thatched cottage is the name.

The thatched part of the building seems to be part of of
a bigger house to the left.

It is next door to Gypsy Cottage.
I showed you that one last week.

Where the front door is?  Don't know.

But I can say this.
When the sun comes out
(as it did about 30 minutes later),
it looks sweet to me.

H Is For Hidden...

...well, sort of :).

I am not a bird person but Mr LOL got quite excited
when he spotted this Chaffinch.
I tried the zoom and pretty much kept still.

Remember that rabbit I saw last month?
It made an appearance too!

Getting back to the Chaffinch,
here's another look.

All taken at Coombe Country Park yesterday.

Not A Pretty Picture

Today's posting is just a little of information about
what is happening for those of you familiar with Coventry.
Basically, we have plenty of road changes taking place.

That is the Council House in the center of the top shot
and the building with the tall tower in the photo below.

I'm standing in Earl Street at Much Park Street.
Have a look in both directions :).

Well, at least it is not raining.

New Road Surface

We're celebrating.  We venture down this road most
weeks.  It has been in desperate need of repair.
Done!  Look at it now.

The potholes are gone, the uneven surfaces are smooth and it is safe to
cruise down this beautiful drive to Coombe Country Park
and Coombe Abbey Hotel.

I am still waiting for snow :).

PS.  The hotel features mediaeval banquets - so I think that is
what 'BANQ' signage is all about.
