Thatched Roof Thursday - NOT

I have looked at so many thatched roof cottages
that I am wondering if this roof was once thatched.

An unusual design with such wavy lines.

I normally share photos of thatched roof cottages on Thursdays.
Not today.

See what I mean when you look at the
roof to the right.

Maybe somebody out there can
name the design.  In the meantime,
I'll be back next week with
Thatched Roof Thursday #55.

Location?  Somewhere near Coventry :).

I don't the proper name, but to me it looks like the underbelly of a mushroom. It's quite charming actually.

It certainly looks like it should be thatched doesn't it? Wonder how the tiles stay on!

Odds on it was once, you need to look at the pitch of the roof line and the dormers

The dormers are very distinctive. My guess is that the owners decided it was cheaper to tile than to deal with the thatch forevermore.

Certainly looks like it could've been thatched, especially since you showed a thatched 'twin' as example:) I love the undulating lines!

Sorry, LOL, I'm the wrong guy to inform you about this! But, I think you should get credit for having had a thatched roof photo this week. We will all testify that it looks like it once was thatched.

Interesting roof, nice yellow on the house though.

I agree with Jack, I'll testify.

Perhaps Hamilton is right Lauren, tiles would be easier to maintain in the long run but I bet they were devilishly difficult to do initially :) Happy weekend to yourself and Mr. LOL.. could I put in an order for a snow shot, the temps are soaring again here over the weekend :(

i think you are correct....and it looks like we've all become thatched roof experts thanks to you! it looks so un-natural with the shingles, just doesn't have the right flow....have a great weekend!!

I would have to defer to someone who's lived in countries with thatched roofs!

Thanks you all for stopping by and commenting. I think we are pretty much voting that it was once a thatched cottage. Cheers!
