Station Tower To Be Demolished :(

Physio for me today and Chiropractor for Mr LOL.
All good for us but not so good for nearby building which is
one of my favourite tall buildings in Coventry.  Just look at that staircase!

I'm sure there is an elevator or two for 'no one' to use.
The 15 floors Station Tower has been empty for ages.
The plan - redevelopment that means this building has no future.

The entrance to Coventry Train Station (left photo above) is quite close to Coventry City Centre (below).  Note the
Three Spires.  The spire to the right is Coventry Cathedral.

The good news - Blue Sky!

My husband was going to propose to me in that station (just as his train was pulling out),but was worried I'd say 'no' ,he asked me in private the following week!

We have one in Reading on Station hill which is due to be demolished, mind you I find it ugly so don't mind.

You would get good exercise on those stairs!

There are probably other buildings in the city that would be better knocked down. At least this one has some personality.

It is a bit sad that relatively new buildings like this have already become obsolete and are being demolished. I hope your check-up went well.

I think climbing or going down those stairs would make me dizzy at the height of it. Nice looking buildings and lovely blue sky.

I do love those stairs, but what a shame! I think this one's got some character. Hoping all went well with your checkup too! Blue skies can't hurt:)

Demolishing seems a bit extreme. What will replace it... if anything?

Goodness that building doesn't look old enough to be already past it's used by date Lauren, they could use it for charity events, raising money by sponsoring people to run up and down those stairs :) Maybe what replaces it will be more sympathetic to the ecclesiastical skyline :)Hope the physo and chiro went well!

The building looks new and that staircase is fantastic!

That will alter the Coventry skyline for sure.

Beautiful sky! Such a shame the building sits empty for so long and will be demolished.

A shame they couldn't find a way to save it.

That would be quite the climb. My lungs ache just thinking about climbing all those steps.

What was in this building before it was empty?

I've been coming to Coventry (from the USA) about twice per year for work, since about 2011. As long as I can remember, I'd get off of the train and see this building, and it has always been empty.

I'm a fan of architecture, and I hate to see a building like this go. We often tear buildings down about 10 years before we grow to appreciate the architecture of that period.

Incidentally, I think it would have had a longer life if it weren't for the completely clear windows. It made it obvious how vacant the building is. And a vacant office building festers like a vacant shopping center: once it is obviously vacant, no one wants to be there.
