Baginton Village Bonfire (Before & After)

BEFORE:
Bonfire is ready with Guy Fawkes on top.
(Note the white doors to give you a perspective of the mammoth size.)
Yesterday was Guy Fawkes Day.  To celebrate the failure of Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators to destroy Westminister in 1605....on or around the 5th of November (weather permitting) the Citizens of Great Britain build bonfires, set them alight and set off fireworks too.  This is how they celebrated in Baginton, a village that borders Coventry.

That would be 'Guy Fawkes' sitting there with no chance of escape.  This was how it all looked on Saturday just before 6pm.

AFTER:

Taken Monday (2 days later)
PS.     Note the blue sky....hooray!  (And, that the houses are still standing...phew.)

Nice with the before and after photos. We could use a bonfire in my area. Freezing temperatures today. and it gets dark in the afternoon.

I know someone who went to his old school, St Peters in York, they burn no old boy on the bonfire.

Ah...interesting, Paul. Guy Fawkes went to St Peter's. Worth taking a moment to google 'Guy Fawkes York' if anyone wants to read more.

Love the before and after effect - what a conflagration it must have been! It's amazing, you can barely tell anything happened in the 'after' shot.

Wow - Baginton doesn't go in for ½ measures does it!

That must have been quite a fire. Good clean-up job, too.

Lovely to see these things in their setting, rather than in a book.
Thank You

Thanks for all the background. I'd heard of Guy Fawkes day, but not much beyond that.

That must have been quite a bonfire! And barely any ash to show for it. I suppose by now the bonfire builders know what they're doing.

I agree, Kay. The first every bonfire I went to over here was the best at my In-Laws back garden. When the fire was burning out my father-in-law (Bless Him) went inside and got a piece of furniture and threw it on the fire. Honestly!

Thanks for sharing this!! I can't believe the grass wasn't even singed. Live the tidbit about your father-in-law. What an experience! :-)
