Gone Fishing...

I didn't go fishing but there are some children in the distance who got a chance
to learn a little about fishing in a moat, no less :).

I'm talking about that group you can see
just beyond the swans.

Looking the other way (below) towards Coombe Abbey Hotel.

This is a perfect excuse for me to share a beautiful day here
in Coventry and show you one of the many activities taking
place at Coombe Country Park.

Hope you are having a super day!!

Thatched Roof Thursday #74 - Marton, Warwickshire

The Old Brew House,
Village of Marton

The first time I saw this home there were vehicles in front.
Came back yesterday and hooray...an unobstructed view.
And, not too many cars in the street either :).

Draycote Water

This is a place I have wanted to visit for years.
Draycote Water offers sailing, fishing and a fantastic place to
walk or cycle around a (flat) 5 mile road which
surrounds the reservoir.

Don't let those angry clouds fool you.  It was very warm today
and look at the view directly behind me.  Just 15 miles from Coventry.

We went to watch the Ladies British Open (Golf) last week.
It was won by USA's Mo Martin.  Found out she was born in Pasadena!

The Open starts tomorrow.  I will be watching...on TV.
Got my Thatched Roof Thursday shot for tomorrow sorted today :).

Celebrations!

Celebrating 4th of July, and.....

...also celebrating living here in the UK for 40 years as of today.
Lunchtime at TGI Friday's, Coventry.

Time for a little break.  Need to figure out how to
get rid of that time stamp :).  In the UK date sequence is day/month/year.

See you soon!

Thatched Roof Thursday #73 - Thurlaston

Rose Cottage, Thurlaston

Found this sweet home on a quiet village lane
not far from Coventry.

By the time I got a closer look at the front door,
the sun went in.  That happens a lot over here :).

Kingfisher Pool, Warwick

This unique facility is especially designed for use by anyone under the age of 17
(to take up fishing safely in an organised way) and the disabled of any age.
The lake is surrounded by a tarmac path for easy wheelchair access.

There are 37 platforms evenly spaced around the lake.

There is a wonderful public footpath for walkers and cyclist that goes along side the lake too.
Located minutes from Warwick Castle in St Nicholas Park.

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Celebrating Summer

I'm celebrating.  It's sunny!
The oak tree is celebrating too.  It is finally covered in leaves,
at last :).  (This is the latest addition to my 'tree series'.)
The little dots of color on the left are runners taking part in fun run
around Coombe Country Park on Sunday.

Enjoy your day and see other photos Celebrating Summer - HERE.

Foxgloves

Could this be a Foxglove plant?
What a curious name.  Hopefully, I have got it right.

Almost hidden from view, deep in the forest at
Coombe Country Park last Sunday.

Thatched Roof Thursday #72 - Chipping Campden

Mill Cottage

Most unusual building.  Looks like 2 thatched houses
merged into one.

I am pretty sure it is Grade II listed.
The sign is advertising for the company that is doing
some restoration work.

Hooray!  USA has qualified to go into the next round of the World Cup.

Hatton Locks

England, Scotland and Wales have over 2000 miles of
historic waterways.  This is Hatton Locks.

Hatton Locks is located about 20 minutes from Coventry.
In the distance you can see the tower of St Mary's Church, Warwick.
Did I mention there are 21 locks :).

Read on if you would like to see a canal boat
negotiated just one of these fabulous locks to progress down the canal.

So here comes a canal boat.

Procedure seems to be that the men stay in the boat
at the helm whilst the ladies jump out.....

...and do a number of strenuous tasks which result in changing water levels in the
lock and followed by opening and closing those big gates.  (I'm joking - everyone
takes it in turns.  It looks hard work.)

Job done.  Time to move on to the next lock.

There are walks along side the Canal.  A sweet cafe too.
Up on the hill is a pub and a short distance away is
Hatton Country World and Shopping Village.
