Change Of Use

Old Post Office, Hertford Street
Correction: Oriental Food Specialist

It was a sad day in 2008 for many when the Post Office moved
from this building to a bookstore. I'm not joking. Built in early 20th Century,
this building remained empty until 2013 when it became a
pawnbroker shop.

As of last September, this prominent stonework facade
is the entrance to (what they say is) the biggest oriental
supermarket in Coventry.

Fancy a chow mein tonight?

So many of our post offices are closing and taking up residence in W H Smith's. Our one was represent in a beautiful stone building which is now part of a fast food chain. Such is progress!

Our post offices seem to be moving into drug stores a lot.

I've posted some important mail from that office...such a shame it had to close.

Only if you have fancy chow mein will I fancy chow mein. Sounds like maybe you have some of the same moronic thinking in your country as to "privatizing" the postal system, which is, of course, just a gimmick to put more money in the hands of the wealthy!

Strange uses for the building. A lot of local post offices here ended up in convenience stores or drug stores.

Good way to recycle an old building.

I'm always glad to see a lovely old building re-purposed. I hope the new business keeps the architecture alive better than the post office was able to.

Love that shade of blue!

An Asian food market seems a strange tenant for this beautiful building.

Somehow I feel this old beauty should have a more dignified use Lauren.. still, the main thing is that it is being used and not demolished oui.

As Bob Dylan would say " The Times They Are a-Changin' "... I wonder if it's for the best.
