Thatched Roof Thursday #47 - Wolston

Brookside Cottage, Wolston
I have seen many thatched cottages covered in moss.
This one is my favorite.  The colors are untouched.

The cottage is called Brookside.  Now you can see why.
The Millstone monument was erected in 2000
as a Millennium project.  The stone was found in a nearby
field and is believe to be part of the old Wolston Mill.

The white building that is boarded up was
The Red Lion pub and is soon to be a residential dwelling.

This thatched cottage is Grade II listed
and dates about mid to late 18th Century, I believe.

PS.  We have a car again.   Hooray!!!
Hence, I was able to drive to Wolston and take this photo.
Actually, Mr LOL did the driving :).

It looks like velvet. I have never seen one so covered in moss. Glad you're back on the road again.

The mossy roof seems pretty unusual. I wonder if the moss damages the roof.

Pretty moss, almost velvet like.

I love the touch of moss and also the fantastic light you caught! Also, hooray for the car...so nice when the world is turning again as it should:) (Oh, how sweet and lucky you got to visit Kenilworth - I've only fond memories of it, so beautiful there!)

Okay, I've had many favorites on your blog but this is my new favorite. That green is amazing! This one's a true beauty. Of course, so are all the others.

So green a roof. What a gorgeous house. The only problem I see is getting up on that roof with a lawnmower. :)

Thanks for leaving a note. Now to your questions:

Jack - I don't think it is good for the roofs. I will have to find out if it can be removed.

Petrea - I remembered that you liked the 'moss' look :). This one is brighter green than most.

Grace - Radio active...ha ha!!!

Lowell - You do make me laugh too!

Tanya - I followed the link...worth a visit.

Actually the roof is not quite as green as it looks - it's just a trick of the light. The thatch was overcoated in about 1998 and when the ridge was redone two years ago the thatcher advised that the main roof would last at least another 10 to 15 years.

bobg - Thanks for that information re the thatch itself. Everyone will be interested. It is a beautiful home and, you are right, the light that morning intensified the colors.
