Rear Window Surprise

Our Lilac Tree, and if you re-focus...

...live music from distant neighbour's garden.

On Saturday evening we could hear fantastic
music coming from one of the houses
behind ours.  Thanks to my camera I
found the source of great live entertainment -
swing, jazz and more all from this lady.
What a great voice.
Yes, I did go around the next day and knock on
the door to find out who she was.  Sadly,
no answer.  I'll keep trying and report back later :).

I'd have enjoyed the music! Lilacs here are blossoming. Most of ours have violet blossoms.

That sounds good and like a lot of fun so long as she shut things down at night! :)

Clever photos -- love it! And, what an awesome microphone to use for live jazz. Looks like a fun scene.

Got to tell you we've been watching "Father Brown" on Netflix which features a Catholic priest in the small town of Kembelford, England, who helps solve crimes and have come to love the show. In one episode, a bishop who screwed up while he was supposed to be guarding a valuable cross, whines that he might be sent off to Coventry! I got a kick out of that but don't know why he wouldn't like Coventry.

Good job zooming in on that pretty lady!

Lowell - Glad to hear you are amused by the fun 'Father Brown' series. The term 'sent to Coventry' (and variations of that phrase) basically means, to be 'given the silent treatment'. I am including a link here if you want to read more or you can just Google 'sent to Coventry' and a list of pages will pop up. Having said all that, I came to Coventry voluntarily and I'm glad I did :).

Thanks for the link, Lauren. It was most interesting. So much history. But through it all, "sent to Coventry" had to do with ostracizing a person in various ways. BTW, I've been reading a bit about G. K. Chesterton who wrote the Father Brown series. He was quite a character and so prolific - 80 books, innumerable essays and articles and columns and poem, etc.! As I've watched Father Brown it's become clear that Chesterton was writing a theological series. He converted to Roman Catholicism in 1922 and like many converts became ultra Catholic. But the theology in Father Brown is not only "orthodox" but is in reality the foundation of what Christianity is supposed to be all about - the basic themes all have to do with sin and redemption. And Father Brown offers all the miscreants the possibility of salvation, if they proffer a sincere confession.

At least that's my take on the series which we thoroughly enjoy and will miss terribly when it is over!

Lowell - Thanks for all of that interesting information. I'm going to watch the series! Delighted to learn that lots of it was filmed in some beautiful villages not far (but so different) from where I live. Cheers!
