City Daily Photo Theme Day - Revolution

Revolution - The Wheel

City Daily Photo Theme Day for this month is 'Revolution'.
Since Coventry (England) is the birthplace of the
British cycle and motor industry,
the wheel seems a good choice for my theme day photo.

Cycles were first built in Coventry in 1868
at The Coventry Machinist Company (a sewing machine company).
The British motor industry was born in Coventry in 1897.

Photographs were taken at the Coventry Transport Museum
where you can also see the 'first ever bicycle' made in Germany (below), and

the largest British collection of motor cars, commercial vehicles, cycles and motorcycles -
and it is free!

Please click the link HERE for more contributions from
around the world to CDP Theme Day - Revolution.

PS.  The car behind the cycles in the first photo is a 1974 'E' Type Jaguar.

A transport museum? How interesting! I love those bicycles with the oversized front wheel and itty bitty back wheel -- classic.

I'm seeing lots of wheels today, and this is a great one!

Aren't the penny-farthings beautiful? In French since there are no pennies and no farthings, they have another name: vélocipède from velox, swift, and ped, foot. It has given the present-day word for bicycle i.e. vélo, which is far more common in France than bicyclette.

Hi Lauren, lovely to see you. What a very fine series of wheels.. The first German made bicycle in wood must have been a little hard on the derrière :) Absolutely love the penny-farthings, I have a friend who has one and can ride it :)

A very nice series of pictures for the theme today!

Very nice. I was at a car museum yesterday and took a photo of a bicycle from around 1880 plus or minus. Guess I won't bother posting that one!

A great theme day post.

I did not know that Coventry was the birthplace of British cycling. I have never seen a real penny-farthing, as opposed to an image of one. I should think they would be joyyt hard to get the hang of.
