Not long ago, Mr LOL and I found a public foot path
that goes from Coombe Country Park, across
a field, to somewhere I have yet to explore.
Walking up the path you will see landscape
like the photos above and below.
What is amazing (to me) is that the 200 acre
Rolls-Royce plant is just beyond the farm
to my left. They make engines not cars here.
I mention this simply because I want to document
something of Rolls-Royce and Armstrong Siddeley Motors
whilst the Ansty plant is still open.
Rolls-Royce has a number of plants in the UK.
In the 1940's and 50's Armstrong Siddeley Motors
had its development plant here.
For one reason or another the workforce
and future of this plant is uncertain.
On Sunday we drove past the main gate.
Rolls-Royce, Ansty, is still open
but for how long, I don't know.

haven't been to that area of England...yet...
It seemed that as a child,many Dads and Grandads owed their living to the car industry in Coventry. I remember 'Coventry Fortnight'and Birmingham Fortnight' which were the names given to the annual summer vacation for the car factory workers.

Incredible the shot of the sun! I've heard sadly of the uncertain future of the area's car industry... Mr. L's family have many memories of when it was all still flourishing, things can change so much within a generation.
The uncertain future certainly is a sign of the times. Not good! I really enjoy seeing the sky in all of your photos.

It certainly is a beautiful setting for an auto plant or another other plant...hopefully, it will keep going or a lot of people will be hurt badly. I wonder how much thought executives give to those work for them or is it all about the bottom line?

I liked how the rays of the sun showed up in your first photo! Sad to hear that factory may close--I wonder what they would do with the property if that happens!

Jane - Gosh it seems years since the Coventry fortnight sort of stopped. It was amazing time and so exciting. Everyone was going on holiday.
Lulu - So true. Happily the good things have followed on after the changes in the motoring industry here in Coventry. Two good University's come to mind.

Pat - I wonder too or should I say, I fear.
Grace - For years there have been cut-backs. In January there was an announcement that 400 of 800 jobs were to be moved elsewhere. That was followed by news that plant would close in 3 years. It is always hard to tell what will actually happen.
