Thatched Roof Thursday #48 - Near Coventry

This is a perfectly manicured thatched roof cottage
as viewed from the back garden.
Yes, a very nice person very kindly
allowed me to step into her back garden
last week to take this shot.
Love the blue sky too!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN !

We are all set!  Plenty of sweets here :).
I saw 3 houses decorated outside this year!
Fantastic.

Have fun!

P Is For Pismo Beach Pier

Some more holiday pics from California.

I did get a shot of a Pelican and friend.
So I'll add it in too for today's letter 'P'.

(At least it looks like a pelican to me.)

I am out of breath.  Did a little climbing today...ha ha!
Will show you the end result on Friday.

Take care and be safe!

How Do You Feel About Stairs?

180 steps and I might have my shot for
CDP's November Theme Day - 'Heights'.

That's the plan.
Mr LOL had to visit the chiropractor yesterday.  I
went with him and quickly nipped into town to see if the
Old Cathedral is open all week.  It is.
I am hoping for some clear skies between now and 1st November.

Cygnets, Mallards & An Egyptian Goose

This mallard found a quiet spot.
Directly to my right is where birds, ducks, geese and
the 7 cygnets (below - yes, they are all there) tend to gather.

And the other family of 5 cygnets are all accounted for too (below).

See the Egyptian Goose?  Coombe has
just the one hanging about.

Or making a fast exit...I am too close :).

We have had some rather stormy weather overnight.
Hope everyone is safe here in the UK.
Have a good week all.

Mixture of photos taken early September and last week.

Thatched Roof Thursday #47 - Wolston

Brookside Cottage, Wolston
I have seen many thatched cottages covered in moss.
This one is my favorite.  The colors are untouched.

The cottage is called Brookside.  Now you can see why.
The Millstone monument was erected in 2000
as a Millennium project.  The stone was found in a nearby
field and is believe to be part of the old Wolston Mill.

The white building that is boarded up was
The Red Lion pub and is soon to be a residential dwelling.

This thatched cottage is Grade II listed
and dates about mid to late 18th Century, I believe.

PS.  We have a car again.   Hooray!!!
Hence, I was able to drive to Wolston and take this photo.
Actually, Mr LOL did the driving :).

O Is For Osprey

(Oh please be an Osprey.)

These are holiday photos taken at
Pismo Beach Pier, California, in August.
On the next lamp post along the pier
was a Pelican.
Think I might be all set for
next week's ABC Wednesday - 'P' :).

Ansty - Rolls-Royce

Not long ago, Mr LOL and I found a public foot path
that goes from Coombe Country Park, across
a field, to somewhere I have yet to explore.

Walking up the path you will see landscape
like the photos above and below.

What is amazing (to me) is that the 200 acre
Rolls-Royce plant is just beyond the farm
to my left. They make engines not cars here.

I mention this simply because I want to document
something of Rolls-Royce and Armstrong Siddeley Motors
whilst the Ansty plant is still open.
Rolls-Royce has a number of plants in the UK.

In the 1940's and 50's Armstrong Siddeley Motors
had its development plant here.
For one reason or another the workforce
and future of this plant is uncertain.

On Sunday we drove past the main gate.
Rolls-Royce, Ansty, is still open
but for how long, I don't know.

Hint Of Autumn

Things are getting back to normal.
We went for a lovely walk yesterday at
Coombe Country Park. I am loving the changing colors.

Happy Birthday, Bonnie :)

Thatched Roof Thursday #46 - Corley

If you stopped by yesterday, you will have seen this entrance
looking towards Corley Church (just behind me).

This photo is looking the other way.  Hooray - a thatched cottage.
Below are a couple more photos taken a few days after the top shot in June, 2013.

This thatched home is hidden away from
prying camera view and comes with a view
of its own looking towards Bedworth and Nuneaton.

Nice view!

Corley, North Warwickshire

Taken in June, 2013
Corley Church entrance, Corley Village

Corley is a small village located about 8 miles northeast
of Coventry.  I found a thatched cottage here along
the main Tamworth Road earlier this year.  The shot for
tomorrow's Thatched Roof Thursday was
taken not far from here.

It rained for the most part today AGAIN
but the sun did come out later - at last!
I have my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Not Unlike Today

Taken in April, 2013
Coombe Abbey Hotel, Brinklow Road

No chance to take any photos again today.
Weather looked sort of like this all day.

We searched for a car and found one at last.
Hooray!

Right now -
England are playing Poland for a place at the World Cup (Soccer).
If England win, they go through.
Better go and see what happens.

Earlier This Year

Taken in January, 2013
Coombe Country Park picnic area.

Today in Coventry it was wet, windy and cold.
We spent a lot of the day looking for a car.
Did I mention it was wet outside?
Got soaked and no chance to take any photos.

Didn't find a car yet...but have some ideas.
Hopefully, it will be a nicer day tomorrow.

Thatched Roof Thursday #45 - Robsart Cottage...

... a 15th Century thatched cottage in Kenilworth.

If you like English history, intrigue and mystery
follow the link and read about
Amy Robsart.  This cottage was named after her.

We rented a car for two weeks...first port of call
was to look for a thatched cottage before we started
looking for a new car :).

Thatched Roof Thursday is finally back
(TV aerials and all).

M Is For Money...

...and plenty of it.  No, this isn't Coventry, England.  This photo was taken during our recent trip to California, USA.

Roman Indoor swimming pool at Hearst Castle.
Totally magnificent and a must to visit
if you do the Pacific Coast drive between
San Francisco and Los Angeles, California.

It had to take a few dollars to build something as grand as this.
American newspaper publisher and owner, William Randolph Hearst, wasn't short of a bob or two.

The Hub, Coventry University

The glass...

The sky...

Today Mr LOL and I took the bus to town.
I had a physio appointment that went well.
I brought my camera and
had fun taking a few snaps outside
Coventry University's central gathering place
known as The Hub.

Beautiful Weather In Coventry

Yesterday was a perfect day to go for a walk to see if
anyone was playing golf at Coventry's
Copeswood Grange Golf Club.  A five minute walk from home.

You may know that Mr LOL and I are recovering
from a car accident.  We are still bruised and sore
and no longer have a car.
It was lovely to be out in the sunshine.

Another shot from the other side of the  golf course.

The days ahead are going to be a challenge.  Plenty of
insurance paperwork needs attention, resting and the small
issue of replacing our car. In the meantime it is
public transport for us.

Take care and stay safe.  Will be back ASAP.
