Boathouse View

Coombe Country Park
View from Capability Brown boathouse

The public were given limited access to the
boathouse during Heritage Weekend in September, 2015.
It was a real treat to see the view from this recently restored building.

The boathouse is Grade II Listed and dates back to the 1770s when
Capability Brown was commissioned to remodel
the grounds, at the time owned by the Earl of Craven.
It is located on the south side of the lake.
Below is how it looks from other side of the lake.

Hope you have a 'sunny' weekend.
That's my plan :).

I really like the old boathouse. Here in Australia we really have no concept of old buildings until we look at those in European countries. My wife & I often watch the British TV shows Grand Designs & Escape to the Country. The ages of some of the buildings we see on those shows is amazing. There was a 2 storey stone farm cottage on Escape to the Country last night that was built in the 1700's & the condition it was in was superb.

It bears a faint resemblance to the Minnesota boathouses of my youth. 1770s! That's incredible. Gorgeous photo at the last, Lauren!

Lovely views of the lake and boathouse. How easily the name 'Capability Brown' seems to march across the screen - you are so fortunate to be able to visit such beautifully designed and managed gardens. I can only dream of visiting a garden designed by Brown or any other of a number of wonderful British gardeners.

How amazing that some of his gardens are still there today Lauren. What a very sweet little boathouse and the view from the window is beautifully framed.
