Historic Bayley Lane, Coventry

The building on the left known as The Cottage was built about 1500.
Coventry Cathedral Tower, was completed in 1394
and the Spire on top was completed in 1433.

All to be found in historic Bayley Lane, Coventry.
Photo taken in October, 2013.

Thatched Roof Thursday #56 - Wolvey

Holly Tree Cottage, Wolvey
Grade II Listed dating around early 18th Century.
In my mind, those beams are outstanding.

Village architecture can be mixed, as you can see
from the photo above.

Hope you are having a good week with
a lot less rain than we are having here in Coventry :).

Chipping Campden in November...

...2011 :).

I have a file on my desktop called 'Blog Standby'.
This photo has been stored there for some time.
Since the 'Snow Gods' are completely ignoring my hopes for snow,
I could be happy for a day like this instead.

Gone Fishing

Taken from the bird hide at
Coombe Country Park.

See what could be an unattended fishing pole
to the left of the swan?  That branch of wood
has been there for ages.  Amusing :).

Thatched Roof Thursday #55 - Whitestone, Nuneaton

This place is deceptively huge (5 bedrooms)
and it is for sale -
£750,000!

At that price I am guessing that little Fiat is included :).

If you want to see a little bit more have a look

That's me done for the week.
Have a super weekend, stay warm or stay cool depending
where you are!  For me, it will be - stay out of the rain...ha ha!

B Is For Building...

....one of three Georgian town houses in Coventry.

The sign outside tells the whole story.

I love to imagine how this City must have looked
before World War II.

Priory Row is just behind Coventry Cathedral.

It's Wednesday.  Hard to believe.  Sunshine today but
the dreaded rain is starting just about now.
Ugh!

Still Waiting...

...for some snow.
This is how things were looking on this day, last year.

Today, it is sunny and just above freezing here in Coventry.
I am thinking snow this time next week :).

The reason for the title?
Have a look below :).

Have a good week!

PS.  'When' you visit Coventry, add Coombe Country Park to the list

Coventry Cathedral Ruins - Golden Glass

If ever you visit Coventry, please
allow some time to walk around Coventry Cathedral Ruins
and look at the windows.

The stained glass that remains after WWII, is worth a look.

Correction:  That first sentence should read,
'When you visit Coventry' :).

Thatched Roof Thursday - NOT

I have looked at so many thatched roof cottages
that I am wondering if this roof was once thatched.

An unusual design with such wavy lines.

I normally share photos of thatched roof cottages on Thursdays.
Not today.

See what I mean when you look at the
roof to the right.

Maybe somebody out there can
name the design.  In the meantime,
I'll be back next week with
Thatched Roof Thursday #55.

Location?  Somewhere near Coventry :).

Station Tower To Be Demolished :(

Physio for me today and Chiropractor for Mr LOL.
All good for us but not so good for nearby building which is
one of my favourite tall buildings in Coventry.  Just look at that staircase!

I'm sure there is an elevator or two for 'no one' to use.
The 15 floors Station Tower has been empty for ages.
The plan - redevelopment that means this building has no future.

The entrance to Coventry Train Station (left photo above) is quite close to Coventry City Centre (below).  Note the
Three Spires.  The spire to the right is Coventry Cathedral.

The good news - Blue Sky!

For Family In Oz

No!  We haven't had snow yet.
I am ready for some soon! Our family in
Melbourne area are bracing themselves for some seriously
hot weather over the next few days.  So here is a cool blast from the UK.
The weather is crazy isn't it.  Hot in Oz and ice storms in USA.

I'm just glad it didn't rain today :).

From the archives:  January, 2013.
That is Coombe Abbey Hotel beyond the trees!

Z Is For Zenyatta

I must confess that I have been waiting since
last August to use these photos.

The name Zenyatta
caught my attention when we were visiting Santa Anita Park in California
last summer.

Santa Anita Park is located not far from my home town
of Pasadena.  No racing that day.  Found a 'Z' instead :).

Nativity 3 - Martin Clunes

Oh what fun!  We went into Coventry today
and ran straight into a film crew for
Nativity 3, starring Martin Clunes in West Orchards Shopping Centre.

One of our favorite TV shows is 'Doc Martin'.
So it was kind of fun to see the Mr Clunes (centre) in person.
He is tall!

I love watching this sort of thing.  There are so many
people in the crew.  How on earth do they coordinate it all!

Oh, the full title of the film is
Nativity 3: Dude, Where's My Donkey?'

I found the donkey next to the lifts (aka elevators)  :)

So there you have it.  A little bit of Hollywood comes
to Coventry now and again.

We have an interest the first Nativity film, because it was filmed
at our granddaughter's school and she had a small 'paid' part in it!

Have a super day!

Window Sill

I have been enjoying these beautiful roses for
several days now.  Time for a photo.

The weather situation worldwide seems a tad dramatic.
Off to read your blogs in hopes that you are all safe and sound,
dry and warm.

Take care!

CDP Theme Day - Photo Of The Year

Today is City Daily Photo Theme Day.
The task? To share a photo that is a favorite from 2013.

I chose this image taken inside Coventry Cathedral Ruins in
October, 2013.  I like it :).

Have a look at some gems from CDP members
by clicking the link HERE.

PS.  Happy New Year!!!
