Thatched Roof Thursday #43 - Stoneleigh

Circa 17th Century.  A Listed Building described as a
timber-framed cottage with red brick infill panels. Steeply pitched
thatched roof with gabled ends.

The first time I saw this house it was being re-thatched.
I decided to go back today and see the finished product.
My photographs are never going to do this building justice.
There are plenty telephone wires nearby, a few cars
and it is located in a place that requires a substantial aerial.
I have looked past these obstructions to
see this thatched roof cottage for what it is - beautiful.

Definitely a beautiful cottage...I don't remember seeing such elaborate designs on thatched roofs prior to your blog!!! And I love the brick work...our new construction has gotten so "dry"...none of the intricate details that old buildings have...a sad result of the passing of time...

It seems the modern distractions only set off the old thatched charm even more! I love that amidst all this modern life, you get the lovely throwback to another age:)

Okay, I'll take your word for it. Certainly has a lot of character and a certain elegance. In the first photo the bricks on the wall seem to be a bit askew. That's kinda scary! :)

With the black into the bricks, remind me of the Tudor style architecture. .

LOL, they did a terrific job of re-thatching this cottage. I didn't notice the things that you called out. I saw a beautiful old thatched cottage.

Sometime you just cannot get past the obstructions. The Chieftess remarked very well on all the attributes of the building that I enjoy seeing.

It's gorgeous and I absolutely adore the peacocks on both ends.

What a fabulous roof. Look at those peacocks, first time I see this kind of work on thatched roofs.

I remember this one Lauren, the peacocks (hens ?) on the roof edges are so distinctive, I wonder if they get used often as a 'feature' or is it just an individual preference?

I always love the birds you see on some thatched places. Is it a pheasant? I think so...
