Thatched Roof Thursday #51 - Little Virginia

That's right,
Little Virginia in Kenilworth, England.
The thatched cottages date back to early 17th Century.

Is it possible
that this is the spot where the first potatoes were grown in England
and that they were imported by Walter Raleigh?

And, that early colonist in Virginia (America) returned to England and made their homes in
Kenilworth, calling this area 'Little Virginia'?

I don't know what is legend or truth, but I do know that
some residents of this area firmly believe that the lawn area here
is where the first potatoes in England were grown.

If you would like to read a nice piece on the subject,

PS. Happy Birthday, Richard!

Eureka! An entire village of thatches, brilliant find Lauren. They certainly look better here than they did in 1972 oui ! The 'first potato planting' theory doesn't look too promising.. Amazing to think the humble spud has become such a staple in most people's diet.

Thank you so much. I am happy to say that Cath.H.C Photography joins us leaving a note in French. The first one I have received. My High School French is horrible so thanks to Google I can leave Cath a response. So here it goes:

Cath - Merci beaucoup. (Google translate m'aide avec mon français :)

Petrea - I know! Who would have ever thought :). This place is only minutes from Warwick Castle.

Grace - I am celebrating! It looks fabulous there. A nice lady let me come in to take the photo. I like mine mashed...ha ha!

Tanya - Ha Ha...I'll remember that when I go back!

I'm so happy to see these thatched cottages again, after a too-long break away from the online world! (Yes, I wanted to take only a small break, but the best-laid plans...:) And even lovelier you captured them in Kenilworth!
