One Of The Oldest

Cuckoo Lane

The letterbox dates back to 1880 and
it says on the sign that it is a rare example
of a Victorian wall box.

It disappoints me that I can't get a shot of this
grand old letter box and The Golden Cross pub without
including that ugly grit/salt box and the
cardboard boxes in the window.  Oh well.

Anyway, have a look at the notice
on the letter box.

A rarity indeed! One would think they'd move the salt container a couple of meters to the side.

That is a pity about the salt bin which doesn't do much for heritage sites does it? I love old post boxes which I think have a beauty of their own.

I love old post boxes too. I can understand your frustration concerning the salt bin, it would also bother me. Maybe it will get moved when they no longer need it.

Wow! Love this image with the old post box, the bricks and that Tudor styled building next door.

I love old things like this. Can you imagine how many letters have been posted here and can you imagine their contents. Many, many books could be written about the lives and loves of those who stopped to place their mail in this box.

What I love even more than the old postbox, and I do love it.. is that it's on Cuckoo Lane!
