By train, Shrewsbury is only an hour from Birmingham and Birmingham is only 30 minutes from Coventry. My idea of a nice day out.

No, that isn't a castle (photo below). That is Shrewsbury's mainline train station and tower built in 1848. It has a surprise..........
Shrewsbury Train Station |
When you go through the door and up the stairs your are not inside a magnificent building but outside again. What a surprise. The view here is looking back to the station tower (on the right) and there is a hint of Shrewsbury Castle on the left.
When we visited the station it was neat to see a very long line of Pullman Coaches soon to take visitors on a steam train adventure around Wales and England.
One more stop tomorrow and then it is back to Coventry.

They built it to last from the look of that stone! Great view from the castle too.
A "steam train adventure" around Wales and England! Oh I am so there. Or I would be, if I could. That sounds delightful.
wow, what a gorgeous train station!
This is amazing! I really like the design. I'm on that train trip too!
Steam trains are a passion of John's and I love going to train stations. This one blew me away. The view is beautiful but behind me was something that will appeal to castle lovers. I'm saving it for a while. So, when you all are planning your trip to England, remember to set aside a day to go on a steam train ride. PS. I get a buzz going on that train from Pasadena to LA...and wish I could do that right now! PS Somebody has a train layout in our loft with those Pullman Coaches.
I like taking the train to LA, too. Union Station is one of our more beautiful buildings.
Great perspective on that bottom shot.
