Old Thatch Tavern
(on a very rainy, dark day)
These photos were taken last month.
It was a horrible day but when I saw this
pub I had to take some photos.
If you have ever visited Stratford, this
public house is located close to
Shakespeare's birthplace.
It is a Grade II Listed building dating back to 1470.
Not only is it the oldest pub in Stratford town - it is also
the only thatched building left in town.
Hopefully you can make out a little of the thatched roof
on the last photo above.

I was impressed how low ceilings were those days.
It looks wonderful!
Looks like a typical dreary English day... oh, but when it's not dreary there, it's like heaven! The dreariness only makes you appreciate the sun more, right?
When I went to England I couldn't believe the thatched buildings I was seeing in the Kent countryside. The fact that they were hundreds of years old boggled my mind. There is nothing in my city more than about 125 years old at the most. To think that a structure from the 1400s is still standing, and still in use -- that is amazing!
I just love those thatched roof buildings. Amazing that it has stood the test of time!
What a beautiful building.
I really like it- it's got character.
What Tamera said! Stratford-Upon-Avon and its like are a thrill for me.
Really wonderful houses, they looks so english style.
Tamera - You sum up beautifully the excitement I feel almost daily.
Thanks for showing these. Some day I really should go to Stratford on Avon. I have been close, but . . .
I love a wet rainy day Lauren but maybe not if I had as many as you over there :) But how very welcoming this old pub looks, I'd be over in a flash if it weren't over 15000km away :)
