It belongs to a fence and is what is used to tension it up with

I suspect it was part of a barbed wire fence. lovely area for it!

No idea either.
I have absolutely no idea, but I'll accept the fence thingy idea until the real right answer comes up.

Probably the fence thing Lauren, but also what about a water measuring device. does the lake ever flood? Nah! lets go with the fence idea :)
