...I mean The LOLfromPasa :).  But first, to my favorite tree:

Not much has changed in the last month except for the

addition of some nice clouds behind this grand oak tree.

I am planning to take a little break from this

wonderful hobby.  Lots planned and plenty of jobs to get on with 

so I must pause from blogging for just a little while.  

So until I return, I am requesting that you all

stay well and keep taking those fabulous photos!

Thatched Roof Thursday #44 - Kenilworth

I just can't bring myself to show you all of

this thatched roof cottage until the sky is blue. 

In the meantime, let your imagination run wild :).

E Is For Elephant

The Elephant & Castle emblem is found on Coventry's Coat of Arms.

This stain glass window is in The Drapers' Room, St. Mary's Guildhall.

This room formed the first floor of the gatehouse and was built around 1340.

These stained glass windows date back to 1888, replacing an 

earlier Venetian window.  The Drapers' Room is loaded with history

so perhaps it would be a good idea to talk about it another day.

I used to work in St. Mary's Guildhall.  So

did Mr LOL.  History was around us

every hour of our working day.  Wonderful!

The Council House

These photos were taken as part of my search for

street lamps for City Daily Photo's Theme Day earlier this month.

I didn't use these shots then so here they are now.

This Tudor-style listed building is headquarters for

Coventry's local government. It was built in the early 20th century.

The Council House was officially opened on June 11, 1920

by King George VI (then Duke of York).

In the photo above, you can see the Coventry Cathedral Spire.

Below is a nice touch.  Years ago, I loaned them an American flag.  

Looks like they have their own now :).

As The Crow Flies

In the distance you can see the Spires of
Coventry Cathedral (left) and Holy Trinity Church (right) 

about 3.5 miles (west) from where I am standing at the edge of 

Coombe Country Park.  I live somewhere in between.
Now to zoom in a tad :).

I just couldn't pass on this shot taken yesterday.

The Windows

Earlier this month was City Daily Photo's

Theme Day - Street Lamps.  

I thought the photo below might work but it was not quite right.

That street lamp is not exactly on a street and the sky was white.  

In taking that shot I noticed the windows.  I could see the

obvious yellow glass on the right but I had never

noticed the glass in the window on the left.

If you go inside the Cathedral and look out,

you will see the view below.  I have

looked through that window many times and missed the stained glass.

It is almost hidden.

The weekend is upon us.  Of course, I will be watching

US PGA Championships and tending to a rather long

'to do' list.  Have a good weekend all.

Thatched Roof Thursday #43 - Stoneleigh

Circa 17th Century.  A Listed Building described as a

timber-framed cottage with red brick infill panels. Steeply pitched

thatched roof with gabled ends.

The first time I saw this house it was being re-thatched.  

I decided to go back today and see the finished product.  

My photographs are never going to do this building justice.  

There are plenty telephone wires nearby, a few cars 

and it is located in a place that requires a substantial aerial.  

I have looked past these obstructions to

see this thatched roof cottage for what it is - beautiful.

D Is For Dragon

This relief sculpture of 'St George and the Dragon' 

can be found in the Soldiers' chapel off the north transept

in Lincoln Cathedral.

Spoilt For Choice...

...or even 'Spoiled For Choice'.  

Isn't it amazing how quickly we accumulate photographs.  Well, I thought

it might be a good idea to have a little clear out.  Since we went to 

Monks Kirby yesterday to visit family, I decided to 

use these photos taken in May, this year.

Above is the road we use to enter the village.

If you look to your right,

you will see open fields and the view below.

PS: Looks like British folk use the word 'spoilt' 

and Americans go for 'spoiled'.  How about that!

Another Swan Sequence

Not long ago, I did a sequence of shots here showing
 a swan entering the pool at Coombe.
Either this is a different swan (below) or someone has been practicing :).

Actually, it is a different swan.  This is the mother to

those cygnets that are growing fast.

Thatched Roof Thursday #42...

...meets City Daily Photo Theme Day - Street Lamps.

These photos were taken just up the street from Kenilworth Castle.

The area around the Castle not only has

smart decorative street lighting but a nice

collection of thatched roof cottages.

This old thatched is described as

Late C1600 timber frame and brick with sandstone plinth.

I am pretty sure the street lamps are a recent addition.
