K Is For Krispy Kreme

If I find American goodies here in England, I get quite excited.  I love Krispy Kreme doughnuts.  I have been known to travel to Birmingham (by train some 20 miles from Coventry) just to have a coffee and a couple of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.  They are outrageously expensive but it is a treat.

This photo is of a display I found at Corley Services (a rest station on the M6 Motorway here in Coventry).  Corley is much closer to home and they sell my favourite - Original Glazed.  Admittedly, it is more fun to go on the train to Birmingham but this is good too.

Krispy Kreme didn't do well in California and most of the shops went out of business...They're the only doughnuts I really like!!!

You do love them to go to those extremes.
While at the soccer the other night we saw people walking around with small boxes of them, my husband and I just looked at each other said "where did they find them?".

How funny. I was there just a couple of weeks ago looking a box of the doughnuts but I resisted the temptation. Once I start eating them I find it difficult to stop.

I rarely get as far south as Coventry on the M6 but now I know when I do I'll be stopping.

They are so good when they are fresh and hot, but only then.
Donut Man is the shop I am wiling to drive 20 miles or re-route to stop and get an amazing donut. They have glazed rounds filled to bursting with fresh strawberries right from the field the day before at this time of year!

The most scrumptious K! That is just so amazing you've found Krispy Kreme a stone's throw away (almost:)! I love when they're fresh and hot, so melt-in-your-mouth!

Though I always try to buy local, I have to admit that Krispy Kreme is really good. I especially like their New York Cheesecake flavor. :)

We don't have them here in Perth, but when we go to Sydney to visit my son Dave, we always get a couple of boxes at the airport to bring home..but we don't go ESPECIALLY for them like you do LOL :) :)

KK in the UK. I never would have guessed! In northeastern US they aren't as popular as they are in the south. A few years ago all the local stores went out of business.

Gosh - I love your comments. I didn't know KK was suffering as a business in America. How about that Chieftess.

Jo - You will pick up here that Sydney has KK.

Joy - If you go to any services that has a WH Smiths - you'll find that display. Enjoy!

Fun60. If I am going to eat them, you have to too :).

uberrhun and Sue - Thanks for the visit. I will have a look at your blogs in a minute.

Lulu - I am dying to go there now. We have family who live very close. Think we need to visit :). Just got a phonecall - we are going tomorrow - hooray.

Hilda - Since you mentioned it, I will see if we have that flavor here and try it too.

Grace - :) :) :) - that me laughing out loud. You come up with such funny comments. (Have a look in Murray Street - you might find KK if they are still open. I've been googling.)

When I hopped off the train at Oxford in 1999, I was disappointed to hear American rock music playing on a radio nearby. What was I expecting? "Jolly old," don't you know. Silly of me! My next visit, I can skip the Krispy Kremes but I must must must have clones with jam and clotted cream.

Dear Petrea. I know exactly what you mean. I feel the same wherever I go on holiday/vacation. (And, I know you mean 'scones' but 'clones' sounds much more intriguing :). Jolly old auto-correct doing its thing... :)!

oh this brought back memories ... in Florida in the late 1990s THE coffee source was Dunkin Donuts ... then my dad heard about Krispy Kreme .. we searched every where for a Krispy Kreme outpost ... none to be found .. after he passed in 2000 my sister and i were down visiting mom .. we went to Publix and what did we see... yup .. Krispy Kremes so close to where they lived we could have walked (no one walks in Florida) we both wondered if dad was watching and knew we were getting some in his honor

LOLfromPasa said...

Oh, Daryl. I have no doubt that your Dad was watching.

Oh no, I meant to say "clones." Really I did. :)

Well that's good enough for me, Petrea. Clones it is and forever more will be :)!!!!!

Fun! When I was in college, Krispy Kreme was enjoying a wild expansion, and was installed at my school. It was fun, but the convenience kind of took away the "special." Now, I don't look twice when I see one (which is not very often as, like Chieftess said, many are now gone). They certainly are tasty, though. But do try Donut Man, if you ever get the chance!!
