Coventry Cross & Holy Trinity Spire
Cookoo Lane, Coventry
|
A market cross is found in towns and villages denoting a market square in a market town. The cross photographed here (unveiled in 1976) is common in many medieval market towns. There have been several Coventry Crosses over the years. This one replaces the 1544 cross which stood some 100 metres away in Cross Cheaping.

Friday means a little break over the weekend for me. I have to do some filing of digital photos - amazing how they add up. Have a good weekend all. Cheers!

Lovely shots!
That first image is an amazing shot but I do appreciate that you gave us some context with the second.
Interesting - but I can't find them beautiful.
Well there you go, you've taught me something. I had never heard of the term "market cross". And i like it.
It's a beautiful structure and also something very nice about a cross having been there since medieval times. I love that you returned for a 2nd photo with more context. Hope it's a relaxing (and digitally successful) weekend!:)
good upwards view
I so enjoy my visits here.
Happy Aloha Friday!

I particularly like the first shot in which the two edifices are sharing a secret!

On my way to see what Perth Daily Photo is for today :).
Lovely blue sky! I knew about Market towns, but I didn't know that the cross denoted them. Thank you for the 'one new thing I learned today' as well as for your lovely pictures.
