The Whole Waterwindow Revealed

Priory Place, Coventry
Hello out there.  I am going to take a short break from my daily postings to tackle a long list of 'To Do' jobs, see people, etc.  In the meantime, I hope to sneak a look at your entries and maybe add a comment or two.  Cheers for now. Back soon!

View From Warwick Castle

Mill Street, Warwick
The towers and ramparts of Warwick Castle give this perfect vantage point of homes between the castle and the River Avon.  This photograph was taken in September, 2009.  I promise you that we had a day well spent, especially for our granddaughter who 'officially' became a princess during her visit that day. (Yes, it is true.)

Warwick is 12 miles from Coventry and 'especially' nice to visit from any place worldwide and Pasadena :)

That Would Be Sir Frank Whittle....

...beneath the Whittle Arches depicted as 'watching the first test flight of a jet-propelled Gloster-Whittle E28/39 on 15th May 1941 at  RAF Cranwell'.

Sun is out (hooray) and so is everyone else.  I will be back here again with my camera, but in the meantime, remember to 'Beware of Buses'....they pass by here like a Gloster-Whittle E28/39 jet aircraft.  Sir Frank Whittle is the inventor of the jet engine.

Becoming A Distant Memory....

....blue skies.  To be fair, we did have a little break from the rain the day before yesterday when this picture was taken of Holy Trinity Church weather vane.
Holy Trinity Church, Coventry
I did not realise that the object on the top of the spire is an 8ft stainless steel weather vane.  Sure enough it was revolving around.  It was designed by John Clark who also named the weather vane, Dove of Peace.

Come In & Be Informed

I am impressed.  What a wonderful sense of community to find this telephone box (which I have photographed before) transformed into a 'very' little History & Information Centre.  There are maps, routes to walk and lots of information for the many walkers who pass this way.  Bravo Stretton Under Fosse.

PS. Yes, it rained ALL day!

Coventry Central Beach

Please note:  Sunshine....Hooray!
Broadgate, Coventry
I can say that we had a burst of warm air for a couple of hours before the rain returned, heavy rain.  The sand had puddles in it earlier but it didn't seem to matter to those children.

'Hey, Lady G, Look At Me'

The seaside comes to town with the weather to go with it....rain, rain and more rain.  Oh dear!
Broadgate, Coventry

I'll show you a bit more tomorrow....hopefully, with some sunshine too.

Today In Solihull, England

St Alphege Parish Church, Solihull
This is the entrance to a beautiful church right in the heart of Solihull.  The red and blue ribbons are there, no doubt, in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.   (A 30 minute drive from Coventry and you are here.)

There We Have It - RAIN

Coventry Cathedral through Herbert Art Gallery Windows
It never stopped raining all day today.  Perfect day to sit in and watch on TV the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in London (in the rain) which looked pretty spectacular nevertheless.  Fingers crossed it is a nicer day tomorrow.

Souvenir of the Coronation of......

Queen Elizabeth II.

And, the whole coronation ceremony was on TV on 2nd June, 1953.  I was in Pasadena watching as a little girl and this tin was the source of a load of sweets for those here in Coventry.  Amazing!  I am told that the rationing of sweets had ended earlier that year.

Kaleidoscope, 'No'!

Holy Trinity Church ceiling, 'Yes'.

Holy Trinity Church ceiling.  Spire is above.
Here is how the church looks when you walk inside.  The spire is half way down the aisle and well lit with natural light.....
