The Charred Cross

Old Coventry Cathedral Ruins

As you can see, The Charred Cross in the Old Cathedral is
a replica.  The actual cross is kept inside the
New Cathedral (below) for safekeeping.
Click the link HERE
to see the original Cross of Nails.

I visited here yesterday and found
this quiet spot right at the back of the
Cathedral where The Charred Cross is displayed
and Books of Remembrance can be found nearby.

Happy Birthday, Mom xx

Coventry Pubs #1 - The Rainbow Inn

Allesley Village, Coventry

'Serving Ales Since 1680'.  My goodness me!

Coventry has plenty of pubs (also known as public houses or
licensed premises).  Many have closed over recent years.  So
now seems a good time to start photographing what is left.
I'll add more to this series from time to time.

Glimpse of Allesley Village

Allesley Village is located about 4 miles west of Coventry City Centre
on the western fringe of Coventry's built up area.

In 1968, most of the Village was designated a Conservation Area.

I will have to come back and focus
on specific buildings, one of which dates back to
1557 (not photographed, yet).  And, there is a beautiful church.

Tree Series - In The Cold

Coombe Country Park

I've been taking occasional pictures of this Oak Tree as part
of a tree series for the last 2 years.  Things
haven't changed all that much here in that time...
just the weather :).

Egyptian Geese

I think it was in 2013 we just had one Egyptian Goose at
Coombe Country Park.  Now we have three.

Well, it is Friday!  First time in quite a while that
I have posted something for 5 days in a row.
Looking back, I can see that my main photography interest
here in Coventry seems to revolve around
Coombe Country Park, thatched cottages and The Cathedral.
I am going to try and branch out a little and share more around Coventry.
Wish me luck :).

Have a super weekend!

Thatched Roof Thursday #83 - Shottery Village

From the front (above) and
at the back (below).

It is Thursday and I have managed to post
something each weekday this week.  Hooray!
Things are getting back on track, hopefully.
Hope your week is going well too :).

F Is For 'First'

Have a closer look in the pool.
A dog decided to join the swans for a little afternoon swim.

Back and forth the 3 went up and down the waterway.  Four lengths, I think.

This is the 'first' time I've seen this happen.  My suggestion:
Keep dogs on their leads.  The water is cold and
those swans can fly :).

The adventurous pooch finally responded to calls from the owners and
was rescued from the lake.

All ended well.  Thank goodness.

Birds

Seagulls at Coombe Country Park

This was taken in January in the fog.
Some severe cropping of the photo below
resulted in the two images above.
Not sure what was going on...maybe it was raining :).

Thanks for the 'get well wishes' from yesterday's post.
We are feeling much better.

Through The Hedge

Coombe Abbey Hotel
A chance to try manual focusing :).

These photos were taken from
Coombe Country Park
a week ago - it was cold out.

The pool is frozen and so was I.
In fact, both Mr. LOL and I are stuck in
with colds.  If I can't get out to take
photos, let's see what I can find on all those
SD cards I seem to have :).

Back tomorrow!

The Path

Coombe Country Park

It has been one of those days here in Coventry -
frosty cold with blue skies.

Have a good weekend!

Ansty Business Park - Manufacturing Technology Centre

Above is an iPhone image taken yesterday.

I went back today to get a better photo with my camera but
the pond was frozen over.  So here is a look
at the main entrance instead.

There is a lot of construction going on around here.
I'll be back :).

CDP Theme Day - What Would You Miss?

If I were to move away from Coventry,
I would miss visiting the Old Cathedral and seeing the Ruins and Spire.

Yes, on reflection, I would certainly miss my visits here.
Even on a rainy day :).
