Lady Godiva Oversees Getting Ready for Olympic - UPDATE

Coventry is getting ready for the 2012 Olympics.  There are real signs of progress.  Lady Godiva (centre) has not been short of activity around her over the last few months.  Below is how things were looking in early October, 2011.

This is Broadgate within easy walking distance to the Cathedral, Coventry Transport Museum, Herbert Art Gallery and Museum and many, many more venues worth visiting in Coventry City Centre. Coventry of Coventry Stadium is to host 12 football matches and is located outside the City Centre.

Petrol Prices going up?

Price today for Petrol in Coventry.  10p more on M6. Ouch!
This rates may go up or it may go done (ha ha).  In any event, I won't complain when I go to Pasadena next trip and pay a whole lot less.  (Today's exchange rate:  1 British Pound = $1.51.  So a gallon of  DIESIL would cost $9.68.  Petrol would be a bargain at $9.13.)  To be fair I should mention that UK gallon is slightly larger than the USA.  UK rules OK at least on size of gallon!

Oh!  Just have to add that I wish I got the whole security camera in the shot.  It demonstrates that security is needed to protect this precious fuel from being nicked.

If you want a clear picture - STAND STILL

The Moon (from a moving car)
It is interesting to think that if you spot a beautiful moon and are a passenger in a car going rather fast down the motorway, when you take a picture it will represent what you see with your naked eye.  Not so.  The moon on this night was enormous, low in the sky and there were no red beams anywhere.  Snap - the camera doesn't lie?!

Lousy Day for Ricoh Arena so off to Showcase Cinema

Not the plan.  It was raining and took this through the windscreen. (I wasn't driving!)
Best place to go when it is raining.  Saw 'W.E.'.  Excellent!!!!

Coventry Winter Rose - Can this be January?

This was taken today.  It isn't a perfect rose but what I like is that in January in the middle of England when we have had several below freezing nights.....this beauty survived with only a little frost bite.

Bretford, Warwickshire - Coffee or a Pint?

I am going to start adding a pub or two for reference.  This one is located in a tiny village call Bretford which is near Brandon and Wolston.  The Queens Head dates back to 1839.  We have stopped here for coffee.  Click on link for Mapquest map Bretford map

'Come On Sky Blues' - CCFC have got to win tomorrow!!!!

Hope there is more action on the pitch than there is here!
This art work is located on the walkway between the Coventry Railway Station and the City Centre.  I have chosen this photo in the hopes that our struggling football team will have a big win tomorrow against Derby County.

PS.  I don't know who created this great display....so will do some research and come back with more information in the near future.

'It's Behind You!' Coventry Sunset

Ernsford Grange, Coventry, at 4.40pm.  Beautiful!
I was sitting at a desk with this view behind me.  When I turned around there was a mad rush to get my camera and take this untouched photograph.  Gosh!

Fixed Penalty Notice for parking on double yellow lines?

Illegally parked George VI Letter Box
I could not resist photographing this George VI Letter Box found not far from Coventry Railway Station with a Fixed Penalty Notice 'randomly' stuck on it.  Just made me laugh.  (Now for those of you that don't know it, this is basically a 'ticket' for minor parking offences.)  I wonder if this ticket will be contested in court.

15,000 Aluminium Discs - Selfridges, Bullring Shopping Centre, Birmingham

Birmingham City Centre is located to the north of Coventry and is less than 30 minutes by train.  Step off the train and you will discover a large number of shops, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, museums, etc., etc.

This stunning architecture was eye-catching when we visited Birmingham today.   Can this be England?

Behind this wall of aluminium discs you will find Selfridges Department Store and a rather large shopping centre.

Coventry Cathedral - Along side Bayley Lane

Coventry Cathedral and Spire, Bayley Lane Coventry (Drapers' Hall to left)

Cathedral window in more detail
Today was a beautiful January day with blue sky to give super detail to the Old Cathedral in Coventry.  I am standing outside Herbert Art Gallery and Museum (behind me) looking up Bayley Lane.  Drapers' Hall is to the left with St. Mary's Hall beyond.  The reddish steel-plate structures are sited along the front of the Gallery and Museum.  They show names of people and businesses that occupied Bayley Lane prior to World War II when the whole area was bombed extensively from 1940 onwards.

Best Christmas Present Ever - A Christmas Angel

This is a rare diversion from City, Town and Village photos.  Our Christmas Tree has been in need of an Angel.  When we were decorating our tree this year with the help of our grandchildren I guess they noticed that we needed something to put on the top of our tree.  We were presented with this beautiful Christmas Angel on Christmas Day.  What a joy and how beautiful it is.  It is now safely stored away because all the Christmas decorations need to be packed away by the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas (tomorrow, 5th January).

Chipping Campden - New Year's Day 2012

Chipping Campden is a short 45 minute drive from Coventry.  Chipping Campden is located in the Cotswolds, not far from Stratford Upon Avon.  It features a historic High Street that has been officially designated a conservation area to preserve it for years to come.  As you drive into the High Street of Campden (as the locals call it), you cannot miss this Union Jack.  Nice sight on this first day of 2012. Happy New Year!
