Something About Those Clouds

Ibis Hotel, Coventry

This one is for me.  I have already used a photo of (and written about) this building earlier this week....but this is the picture that I like the most.

More on Godiva Awakes

Godiva Awakes

______________________________________________________

Sitting down outside Coventry Police Station .
  Ready to go.

On Friday I had photos of Godiva covered awaiting her unveiling outside Coventry Cathedral.  Yesterday, she walked around Coventry City Centre in a parade. (I wish I could have seen that.)  Late yesterday, she finally got to sit down and be driven, using cycle power, off  to London.  A pool of 100 cyclist taking turns transporting Godiva (25 at a time) on this week long trip.  For more information - The Journey from Coventry to London

Heading up The Mount, Coventry
So there we have it.  An ambitious project which has certainly captured the imagination of many.  She began her epic journey to London yesterday.  If you would like to see how she appeared in Coventry City Centre  yesterday...have a look at the BBC link here:  BBC Photos of Godiva Awakes.  (Please note that these photos will only be there for a day.)

PS.  I believe that tonight in Rugby Godiva will be raised to 10 meters on her horse.  Tickets sold out...no surprises there.

The Sign Says It All....

Cyclopedia powering Lady Godiva  (not pictured) to London
More tomorrow!  I had to start today with this photo of cyclist taken in front of building built in 1890 for S & B Gorton, cycle manufactures.  In 1905 Swift Motor Company took up residence.  Swift Motor Company is famous for making motorcycles, motor tricycles and a conventional car in 1901.  PS Those black clouds produced a hefty bit of rain and thunder and lightening...must be England :)

A Good News Day

What fun I had straightening  the newspapers at our local grocery store so I could take this picture.  Almost every paper featured the Olympic 2012 opening ceremony.  If you missed the ceremony, be sure to watch 'highlights'.  You won't be disappointed.  And, hope you have a 'good news' day too.  Cheers!

University Square (looking towards Coventry Cathedral)
So the scene is set.  Here we have Lady Godiva standing 33ft high soon to be unveiled and move from Coventry to London powered by 100 cyclist.
Lady Godiva soon to be unveiled
It is reported that the unveiling of Godiva will include a production of dancers, actors, aerialists, musicians, pyrotechnicians, carnivalists and 220 young people in a procession. On 29th July, she will be the focal point of Coventry’s Godiva Carnival and will then journey from Coventry to London to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Her movements will be activated by four performers and her hand and eyes radio-controlled.

Finished And Looking Good...

...Coventry's City Centre green space.
Formerly Trinity Street.  Now a open green space.
I am impressed.  I have sat on those benches and it is a great place to watch the world go by.  I will show you why on another day.

Trinity Street, March 23, 2012

(PS to Family & Friends - Can you spot anyone you know in the larger photograph above? :)

Gotcha! Olympic Champions Out For A Run....

...in a hurry!

Coventry is hosting 12 football matches (Men's & Women's) for Olympics 2012.  First two matches are today.  As a consequence, many of the roundabouts outside the City Centre are featuring Football.  This is one of them.

(Hope they haven't been to the local police station across the road...ha ha!)

Time To Go Home to Coventry

Shenandoah National Park, Virginia
Last stop was our family reunion in the most beautiful of places, Shenandoah National Park.  This photo was taken the morning after an enormous electrical storm that meant no electricity for a good portion of the East Coast of USA for several days.  Home was this little cabin at Skyland Resort.

Time to head back to Coventry.  Lots happening.  Dare I mention the Olympics.  Tune in tomorrow.

Still Not Coventry - This is Lancaster in Pennsylvania

Lancaster, Pennsylvania

We are getting closer to Coventry.  But first, I must mention the wonderful visit we had to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Lancaster is an lovely place to spend a peaceful afternoon driving around the productive farmlands of the Amish.

One more stop tomorrow and then back to Today Around Coventry Daily Photo.

Heading Back To Coventry Via The Grand Canyon...

and a quick visit to the East Coast.  (Two more stops and then it is back to Coventry on Monday for Today Around Coventry Daily Photo.)

Grand Canyon, Arizona
There are millions of photographs just like this one...but nonetheless, it is a breath-taking spot and well worth a visit. Please, please stay in Williams (Wild West town on Route 66) and take the train to the rim.  You will even be 'held-up' by pretty convincing wild west bandits....so have a few dollars, just in case.  Follow the link for more info:  Historic Train to Grand Canyon

In Coventry It Is Raining and In Las Vegas....

...it is rather warm.  The spray from those fountains felt wonderful when it was 107F at 3pm.

Bellagio Fountains, Las Vegas
Three more holiday snaps and then it is back to Today Around Coventry Daily Photo on Monday.  Well, that is the plan.  Cheers.

From Coventry Off To Pasadena, USA

Pasadena, California, that is.  My home town.  This used to be Pasadena's Train Station but has since given over to become a couple of nice restaurants.  You can still catch the metro from Pasadena (outside this building) to Los Angeles.  Any trip home to Pasadena could include a day trip to LA with lunch at Philipee's....home of the French Dip sandwich.  Follow the link for the story...Philipee's. (Oops...who put that post right in the middle of my holiday snap? I know 'Pasadena Daily Photo' expert would not make the same mistake.)

Pasadena Metro Station
Hope you don't mind that I am including a couple of holiday photos.  I'll get back on track next week with more from Today Around Coventry Daily Photo.

Some Distance From Coventry.....

....at about 36,000 ft somewhere over USA.

Taken most likely over Colorado during recent forest fires and thunderstorms.

Before I get back to sharing photos of  Coventry, UK, I am going to spend a week showing a little of where we have been during the last month.  Hope that is okay with you!

I'm Back.....

...Stay tuned for a little of this and that before I get back to business on Today Around Coventry next week.
